McGeady and the fans exchange at FT

An ageing player who has little more impact on a game than an average League one player was given a 2-year deal on very good money for this league.

No one would take his wage off us, so we are stuck with him clogging the wage and leaving little in the way of wiggle room.

The owners and fans thought it was a coup, it was merely a case of poor optimisation.

To be fair I wouldn't really count "that was f***ing shit McGeady" as personal abuse so not sure it warranted a "fuck off" reply, but McGeady is no doubt frustrated so I can understand him snapping. The fact he went across, discussed it and shook hands reflects well on him so you'd hope that's the end of it. It suggests he cares, let's hope he shows that with some good performances over the next weeks/ months
That’s not what was said apparently

Fair play to him. Heat of the moment

Any player getting abuse from a fan has a right to a quick retort.
I would hope it would spark a long look in the mirror from the player and him saying “This has to stop, I’ve got to do better.”
Has anyone actually confirmed what happened ? A lad on FB reckons he came over and just chatted with a few fans at the end of the game.
But a lad on twitter said it happened.
Prime example of the state of news nowadays.

It is like travelling half the country to go to the cinema and the projectionist can not be arsed to put the picture on and after 2 hours you enquire with the cinema manager what is going on and he tells you to f eck off.

I'm guessing Parkinson isn't treating him with the same kid gloves as Ross was and its showing on the pitch.

Didnt Nick Barnes comment a few games back that McGeady had travelled to a game in his Lambo instead of being on the team bus?....if shit like that is happening then it's now wonder the team looks disjointed.

He's now a lame one trick pony that most of League one have figured out, hopefully we can get shot in January.

Aye, didn't Leadbitter hint at a devided squad ?
After halting the decline and turning things around we seem to be slipping back to old ways and it's very worrying.
:(

What abuse?!

Amazing how many people have such strong views but weren’t there! He hit a ball first time out of the air which didn’t find its target, frustrated fans reacted and shouted some abuse. McGeady reacted and gave some back. At the end he walked over and said “sorry I was wrong “. He shook hands with the fan and they had a chat for a minute or so....much bigger things to worry about. Plenty of players didn’t even acknowledge the fans.
TBH I respect him more for giving some back and then coming to speak to the fans involved than saying nowt back at all. At least it suggests he cares but is man enough to deal with it in the right way.

Supporters are a bit precious at times, players are human and you want that human connection to them - well here it is for good and bad.

I was very close to the original exchange and that is exactly what was said, what did you hear was apparently said?
me too- could hear every word and that is what was said.

Double like for both statements !

oops should have read the thread properly. so it sounds like he reacted to frustrated general 'ah for fucks sake / thats shite / fuck off man' comments from fans after another wasted ball, during the game. at the end of the game he comes over to apologise / chat.

absolutely nothing to see here as far as i can see

its amazing how quick something escalates and becomes 'fact' . i bet a fair few people on saturday say to their mates 'did you hear that McGeady told the sunderland fans to fuck off after the gillingham game' and it will forever be known as fact

I like McGeady and it's a real shame that he hasn't been the same player since his injury last season. Lets hope he can turn that around sooner rather than later. Sounds like he reacted in the heat of the moment last night and good on him for apologising afterwards..... he's only human afterall.

The lad who actually had the exchange posted on here last night what happened, and McGeady came over at the end of the match and they sorted it.

That's the end.

Any focus on this is just a distraction from the fact that McGeady and others appear to be phoning in their performances on the pitch, and have been doing for some time.

I'd like to see some responsibility and leadership taken by McGeady and others to try to turn this season round on the pitch before it's too late.
