Sterling & Gomez Bust Up

Seems like sensible management from Southgate, as he went on to say.

Gareth Southgate said: “We have taken the decision to not consider Raheem for the match against Montenegro on Thursday.

“One of the great challenges and strengths for us is that we’ve been able to separate club rivalries from the national team. Unfortunately the emotions of yesterday’s game were still raw.

“My feeling is that the right thing for the team is the action we have taken. Now that the decision has been made with the agreement of the entire squad, it’s important that we support the players and focus on Thursday night.”
He has got it spot on for me. Players have said in the past club rivalry’s have carried over to the England squad. Nip it in the bud straight away regardless of who it is. Big Southgate fan. Polar opposite of what I was expecting when he 1st got the job.

If the gaffer and the squad thinks its best that, Sterling sits this game out then i am behind him, after all we have Sancho and Hudson Odoi, and Ox Chamberlin, who can fill in for him if needed.

fill in for him?
None of them are fit to lace his boots mate. I get the feeling Gomez might have played the Judas card. Sounds pretty serious.

He’s one of our best players and should be playing imo ,

agree with nipping it in the bud but to leave sterling out is a bit strange ,
perhaps he went completely over the top

Stupid to have the players in the day after such a big emotionally charged league game. They should still be able to behave themselves mind.

Had to be pulled apart in England training today and Sterling now not being considered for the Montenegro game.

Apparently stemmed from Gomez continuing to wind him up after yesterday’s game.

Typical scouse kernt !!

On the radio they said it was in the canteen and Gomez shook Sterling's hand who then said " still playing the big man" and then got Gomez by the throat. Gomez didn't fight back.
The whole team took the decision that Sterling should be dropped.

I get that this is an important team thing but he is a good player.

It's a game against a glorified pub team. If it had been against one of the big nations I doubt he's have been dropped.

Boxing gloves and a ring 3 rounds. That would sort it. Fannies.

Drop Gomez the no mark wtf is he in the squad for anyway
Shocker. One of the most punchable whiny faces in football.
The idea of him being a tough guy cracks me up though. Featherweight doesn't cover it.
If Sterling has a punchable face what does that make Grealish's

So despite Southgate saying Sterling was at fault, Sterling saying he was at fault and the official statement saying Sterling was at fault, people on here think well known “Scouse c**t” Joe Gomez (who is from London) is to blame?

And not to mention the obligatory wacky jokes about how Liverpool are never to blame?

thats what made me decide tbh.

I think the issue's maybe ran a little bit deeper than just Stirling and Gomez just ribbing each other and one becoming more irate than the other.
I think there could be a little bit of afters with the coaching staff in terms of maybe Stirling's went a bit overboard on them too, for maybe trying to cool the situation.
Obviously I'm guessing but I just don't think Sterling would be dropped just because of a strong disagreement with one player and especially a player that is just hot off a win for his club against Stirling's club.

I think Southgate's likely dealt with a situation that's more of sending a message out that no player is bigger than the England set up, regardless of who's part of it.

It's not ideal but then again we've got enough players to cope in his absence. It's not like we're playing the top sides.
