It makes fuck all difference what anyone says, a lot have already made their minds up.

I actually thought it was a decent listen and think they both spoke quite well. A lot of what was said makes total sense to me.

The only thing that doesn’t really make sense is the whole investment thing and what the intentions are of FPP. Saying “ask them” isn’t a very good answer.

He was clearly experiencing the "unpleasantness" that CM talks about in the podcast.

Of course it's up to you whether you consider that to be "hounding out" or if you reserve that phrase for actual protests or crowds with pitchforks baying for his blood, but I think most people would agree that there are degrees of this sort of thing, and everyone has a different tipping point.
That will always happen. A minority spouting shite isn't hounding someone out. Short was backed as well.

I'll be amazed if this investment helps us go up in the next couple of seasons and is then repaid by the owners and we never see FPP again, especially when it's well known they're looking for a European football club to invest in, we've got the infrastructure, the loan is being spent on strengthening that and we're at a low cost compared to how much we'd be worth it back in the PL.

I think that’s exactly what CM and SD are hoping, though.
The FFP takeover was never hindered by the Americans’ desire to own us - it was hindered by SD and CM’s desire to do the same.
Our current owners are driven by ego and money - their ultimate goal is to own a club in the Premier League. The investment / loan from FFP may allow them to eventually do that along with financial injections from others - which is why CM is at pains to emphasise Sartori’s future involvement.

At the same time we've been told we're in a "cracking state" financially and then now we're being told the investment will help with mundane things like lifts and speakers being fixed. It certainly doesn't sound like we've been in a cracking state.

I genuinely wish they'd never started with these podcasts tbh.

I thought the comments were ridiculous when I read them yesterday. Having listened to it today I don't think it's half as bad as I initially thought. He wasn't really saying the investment would be for fixing the lifts etc, more just that getting the investment marks a turnaround from a position whereby everything was being stripped back and some fairly routine things weren't being got round to, to a new stage where we can get all those things sorted and look to start building back up sensibly. It sounded a lot more positive out of Methven's mouth than it did when written in the Chronicle, maybe I shouldn't be surprised given the source!

We're not unique mate. How do you think Liverpool, Arsenal, Man Utd fans etc. would be reacting if they had to endure multiple relegation battles and consecutive relegations, serious question? If anything we have been more patient than most. I recall Arsenal fans booing Wenger

Look at how the mags go on. Liverpool were shocking not long back. Man Utd have been appalling, West Ham were scrapping on a regular basis, they even went as far as invading the pitch in protest only a few seasons ago.

I understand that mate. It just seems to be mixed messages with every podcast. I wish theyd never started them tbh

I agree we're not unique, but I'd like to think that we should aspire to be. :)

When Methven says they “have no financial connection with Sunderland AFC and that’s the way it will stay.” I don’t think he could be much clearer that it is just a one-off arrangement.

With that one statement he effectively put to bed any hope that if we get promoted, FFP takeover.

Otherwise why add the statement “and that’s the way it will stay”?
What I don’t get is both him and stewy have said it’s investment into the club but listening to that it’s got nowt to do with the club on paper and his ask them remark. Again why is every f***ing thing these blokes say and do have a sense of smoke and mirrors, they’ve spoken of how they bought the club a number of times yet I don’t think anyone on here could give a 100 % certain answer of how it was bought with what money and who owes what. Its feels the same with this “investment”. Nee wonder conspiracy theories get talked about on here.

Sorry like but I just can't and won't accept mistruths spoke about the fans. It's over sensationalised (hounded out, abuse etc) and a way to distract from other mistakes

Aye, I can't really remember anything major against Short, not much abuse in the ground until near the end, no organised protests like there was for Murray. Some online wanted him out, and got some support, but that'll always happen. I think the mood really changed about Short once people realised that he'd given up. He was probably right not to put any more money in since he was incapable of appointing people who could use the money without it ultimately just creating more debt, but once he decided to stop spending he had to get out. Even then, other than a few "fuck off Ellis Short" chants he didn't get major protests because we all knew that he wanted out at least as much as we wanted rid of him!

That's fair enough, but it's just as bad if fans sit back and accept mediocrity imo. I don't agree with fans getting personal, but there's nothing wrong with dishing out critiscism when the custodians of our club are failing to deliver.

I don't think anyone's "accepting" mediocrity, some of us just choose to express their disappointment in different ways to others of us.

Criticism is one thing, but I don't think it gives weight to anyone's argument if they express that criticism in an unpleasant or aggressive way. That seems to be the point CM makes in the podcast, and I agree with him fully on that.

The only hope I have of this quote from Methven saying the 'investment' is between Madrox and FPP is that it makes more sense to do it that way for SCMP.

Ie it's better to increase the turnover by 5 million this year and 5 million next year than increase it by 10 million this year then be stuck in the summer.

I doubt that will be the case though.

Amazing how it turns into a finger pointing exercise when it's actually incredibly simple. The gaffers gaffer, and the fans watch.

We are failing, that has absolutely fuck all to do with the fans. Setting arbitrary points targets had nothing to do with the fans, pr exercises had nothing to do with the fans, the problem with raising expectations is you also raise hope.

Who publicised the "takeover?", and on what platform? join the dots.

You're right there like. And to be fair even Methven on the podcast was agreeing when he said he's perfectly happy to accept and discuss criticism, it's only when it crosses into mindless abuse that they would have an issue with it. Some are just overly negative, I don't see the point in supporting a football club if you don't at least try to see the positives, but equally there's a point where unquestioning support can do more harm than good. Not saying we're at that point yet, but some get too defensive of the owners. Ultimately I'll support them as long as I think they're doing a good job but if I think they're harming the club I'll be the first to say they should leave, after all we all support the club, not the owners, and as such should want whatever is best for the club irrespective of that means backing or questioning those in charge
