Significant investment by FPP has been made

Whether this latest investment has a positive affect on the club remains to be seen but watching Bob Murray who attended 1 game last season give a short interview on Look North his sadness at our demise was all to plain to see. To say that his ambition was to have a stadium and a team in the top 20 in the world and currently have a club that's outside the top 50 in England is an underachievement which is just off the scale. The prospects of recovering enough ground to be in the top 20 in England in my lifetime would do me but seems like a distant prospect at best with the current regime.
Yet did bugger all to facilitate that.Lest we forget murray out demonstrations.

If it is a loan, the lost important question is are they charging us interest?

People are saying its not our business to know this sort of stuff. Personally i think it is. Im not saying it is the case at all, BUT it is possible that they could be getting us in debt. Im sure i read somewhere that both methvens company that holds his shares, and donalds company have taken advantage of the opportunity to change when their accounting year ends, pushing back the date that their accounts have to be filed by. Again, could be perfectly innocent but why are they doing that? Put this together with the "confusion" over how much he actually paid for the club, the fact he took some out to 'drip feed' back in over time and the fact he stated he wanted to be transparent when hes been anything but on the finances, and you have to start at least questioning whats going on.

Charging us interest :lol::lol: these lads need a bit interest jesus h .Ive heard they are after getting a provy out while they are here

We clearly need funding for player acquisition now, the quality in the squad is poor especially at the back. £10m to invest in staff we shouldn't have got rid of in the first place, disappointing
I dont trust SD and CM to make the right decision lets face it the have left Cotton and Hill in place and their track record is shite

HSBC are one of the biggest banks in the world. Their biggest stockholders are The Vanguard Group Inc. These are very wealthy people. Do you think they would say, "hold on chaps, you do realise we are absurdly rich, do you think we should just dish out interest free loans from now on?" These people get rich for a reason. While i agree it is possible they see this as a sporting project and arent interested in making money, it is equally possible that this is a business decision and the loan is a standard one with all of the usual terms and conditions. Including interest. My point is, we just dont know.

Aye but they are wealthy investors whose usual M.O. is to invest for profit. Im not saying it is definitely the case, just that its a possibility.

I sincerely hope you are right mate.

We have heard rumours that these people are interested in investing in a football club in Europe. We know for a fact they set up a holding company with Sunderland in the name, registered to the SoL which would be highly likely to exist for the sole purchase of holding shares. We know for a fact that they came across to Sunderland to watch a match. They have definitely invested in a sports team previously (albeit not with their personal wealth). I haven't heard of any instances of them just loaning money randomly and hoping to make a bit of interest, and if this was their plan why not just invest as MSD?. This money happening to go to the club they set a holding company up for would be a canny coincidence if they weren't intending ever having shares in the company. We've also heard from GOM that it's far from uncommon for an investment like this to end up as a convertible loan which can be repaid in shares, and I'm fairly sure that Short did something similar prior to becoming owner. So aye, all we know for certain is that it's a loan, but you really have to be glass half empty to not think it is highly likely that it is a first step towards owning at least a portion of the club

I dont want to be painted as someone negative or taking an opportunity to have a pop at the owners. I badly want FPP to have full control as soon as possible and hope this is just the start.

Several of the points you make to support your views are valid but i would counter that they were all pointing toward a takeover. I think its clear to everyone something has changed between, for example, the holding company being set up and the loan being announced.

Im not being glass half empty, im just suggesting we should be exercising a little caution and not be blinded by the possibility of major investment.

No you make some fair points mate. I just think if we accept that it was looking like a takeover then if something went badly wrong there's not much chance they'd randomly have said "we're not bothered any more, but how about a £10m loan". I think they'd have just walked away and never looked back. My opinion is that they've been a bit put off by the risk involved so, rather than buying in straight away, they're dipping their toes in with a loan which they can get back if things go wrong, but which will help us build and if that results in us improving and if we get into the league above, then they will convert it into shares. I accept that's totally just speculation though!
