I have a habit of typing out how I actually feel about posts that I think are incidendiary, then swear a few times, then erase it all. It might seem an odd way of dealing with anger management online, but it works for me, and if it helps one other person avoid a ban, it's done its job.

Its the last thing I want to do, but I really am getting to the point where I wonder whether these forums should be shut down permanently.

We have that many petulant posters on here at the moment and the amount of abuse between posters, and libellous posts directed at owners/managers/players etc has gone off-scale over the last year and particularly in the last couple of months. Yes, feelings are high, but there is no excuse for a lot of what we are seeing in the "Football" forum.

Despite having a large team of moderators across several timezones it is becoming impossible to deal with this and only you, the members of the forums can make them go back on track.

Today alone, hundreds of posts have been removed (that is excluding the "takeover" thread which has been deleted) and several people have totted up enough warnings to be banned. That is not how I (and I am sure the majority of people here) want to see the forum running.

Can I ask everyone to have some restraint. Take a deep breath and think about what you are posting before you press the "Post" button. Remember you are responsible for what you post.

Well said Roger.

The reasons I'm rarely on here any more Roger summed up in the post. The toxic element have taken over, the good posters have fucked off or only check in infrequently, and it's just no fun any more.

Can you imagine something like the paintshop thread happening now? It's all bullshit. I vote burn it to the ground and start again.

As somebody said at work this week: the internet is a powerful tool which gives power to tools.

Its amazing (depressing) just how many bell ends there are out there with a keyboard. it’s killing Facebook/Twitter and forums all over.

Most of my mates (35-45) are off completely off social media and forums now, and in private groups on things like WhatsApp instead.

Well said.

This board surely is a bad reflection of the fan base and id not be surprised if new investors took the word from here as how we really are-the aggression, which i have also been drawn into is something that is bad for everybody- in manifests in your mind and effects your mood-if you’ve ever asked yourself why am i reading this then you know its time to move on- i did also join Not606, its a little slow and boring but it’s civil and respectful -the real personalities are on here but they are being drowned in a sea of wrath

Get medieval on their ass @Roger, hit those guilty of defamation and abuse with the ban hammer , too many clowns using this and the politics forum as an ego dump. SMB still decent crack

Football is a passionate game. I’ve no bother with differences of opinion about football and Sunderland.
But, vitriol, bile and anger and abuse,no, not for me. And in the last week or so thats what this place has become.
It’s a poor imitation of the daft and humorous place it was.
I love reading about SAFC on here and of course some posts are interesting and others are not. It is shocking however to see how some people become immediately abusive if someone expresses a view with which they disagree.

This ... it’s become a complete basket case of a forum, it used to be class, not anymore

This but the mods etc have not helped with the favourites and cliques imo.
This used to be a class place like many have said but now it's just like a zoo.
If you post something positive you get hammered, if you post something different to someone else's belief you get hammered.

Its comes down to respect and courtesy for others and as seen in general society its becoming non existent.

I agree with that, but what kind of respect or courtesy are you going to get from WUM's ? The whole point to them is to get a reaction, and the worst posts get the most bites. And undercover mags ? They are here to stir the shit. I doubt the threat of a ban will moderate them. It'll be "Job done" for them to be banned. Openly stated mags are far more tolerable than the other two lots. The mods must have an idea how many posters are being put on ignore. That should tell them something.

Well said, not many posts these days with substance or reason. Keep it real and respect a difference of opinion, the response I get most is....... he must be a mag. For the record I’m not and to be honest I’m not a supporter of football right now it’s lost it’s appeal, but, that doesn’t mean I can’t have a difference of opinion now and again.

I think what is apparent from this thread is things have to change or this forum is heading in a direction most reasonable people don't like.So its down to the Mods to change things or loose what used to be the best forum out there.

There’s an element of the board who tbh are easily identifiable who wouldn’t be missed by being banned permanently. They know what they post is inflammatory and do it regularly.

This board peaked when a limited number of people had internet access at work.

Now every fuckwit in the land has access at their fingertips 24/7 you're conversing with people that you'd avoid in real life.
We need some questions as you log on to direct people to rooms with like minded people.
Do you support Sunderland ?
Do you wear tracksuit bottoms or baseball caps?
Do you believe in mixed marriage?
Do you listen to talksport?
Do you read the Sun
Do you put sauce on a steak ?
What does your business card say ?
Best restaurant in London ?

welcome to a room full of like minded people
