James hunter apparently reckons the fans have unrealistic expectations

The manager and coaching staff all need to go. Players are grossly unfit. Need a new set up with fresh ideas. Can’t believe he didn’t get sacked today.
Aye, fitness is definitely an area of concern. I’m hanging on to the hope that he’s not been sacked because there is still some possibility of a takeover. It’s probably that we can’t afford a payoff though:cry:

Not being funny, serious question, do you go to many of the games? Every time I watch us play I don’t see that we have better players than the opposition. We certainly have zero pace and are weak as water. Rotherham game in particular was a strange one. We looked on top early on but they then bossed the shit out of us the last hour. Their players looked way better than ours that last hour. Our midfield regularly looks 2nd best, and as for our strike force! Hope McNulty comes good.
Got a season ticket and been going since 1985.
I've got to ask though do you know anything about football?
Teams who are underperforming will regularly look 2nd best.
Our strikeforce (Grigg in particular) have scored hatfulls of goals in this league.
We've just cancelled a game because we have players away on international duty, how many others have had to do this?
In Mcgeady we have the best player in the league who has Champions league experience.
Any decent manager would get a tune out of this squad.

Answer me this, which club player for player has a better squad?

Said on the latest RR podcast I'm reading on Twitter....

Who mentioned 100 points? Who mentioned 20 clean sheets? Who came out and said there was no excuses this time? It wasnt the fans james...

Also the same journalist who questioned why the fans thought we had money to spend. Maybe because the week before the owner said on a podcast we did and had bids out.

Fans fault again though? Pisses me right off honestly.

The problem is a lot of these journalists don't give a shit about any team north of Watford that isn't Manchester or Liverpool

They look at the league they look at the last few results then if they are asked questions they just trot out the usual "well what do they expect?" Or the classic "they are where they are"

They don't give a shit about the fans the feeling in the region they don't bother to look into the manager or what the owners have promised and what the owners are delivering

They just go through the motions paying teams like us and Hull lip service then move on. For a journalist outside of the north east covering Sunderland matters is just a tick in the box exercise

My question was genuine. Apologies if it didn’t come out that way, plenty on here have opinions without going to many if any games, which is fine.

Since 1976 marra and played half decent Sunday League standard, not that I was any great shakes, but feel I know a little about the game.

Won’t keep labouring the point, and don’t know other clubs squads man for man, but I’ve watched most home games since we hit this level, and in very few games have we looked to have better players than the opposition. I agree McGeady is an exception, but that’s all. No tactics will give these players pace or strength, areas where we are nearly always 2nd best.

His comments seem to be thinly veiled digs at Donald. He'll have the ammo to call him out, but wouldn't have the balls to do it.
This. His comment about 'the football staff' not setting the 100 point target is interesting.

Defending ross to the hilt

Seems a little bit of a coincidence that he brings this out when the rumours about the takeover being off surfaced today

Yeah exactly, boosted ticket sales. Just wondering if the original "leaking" of takeover was designed to boost tickets etc also.
What original "leaking" are we talking about here? The Times article, the fanzines talking as if it was done etc...?

James Hunter has reported on Sunderland for years now and goes to every game, home and away, so in that sense should be in a position to offer a reasoned view.

A problem such journalists seem to have is that they get too close to a manager or fear for their access if they’re too critical.

He must be able to see with his own eyes that the sides performances have deteriorated since March last year and that alarming performances such as Ipswich, Bolton and Lincoln are becoming common place.

If reacting critically to such displays demonstrates fans have unrealistic demands I think we all may as well give up.

He might well be a fan but he makes his money through journalism it's his profession and he's going to make more money by talking football about bigger and better things. He can tow the line regarding us

This! You should read (if you haven't already) 'This is the one' by Daniel Taylor - its' an excellent account of a year covering Man Utd when Fergie went to war on the media
He supports Bradford
Though that was Mark Douglas

This is a superb post.

I’ll have a look for the book. No idea about Douglas but Hunter has definitely said on previous WMS Podcasts that he’s a Bradford fan.
