Whereas the "ship" badge is associated with rampant success?

Sorry, I must have missed where I mentioned the ship badge in my post! I prefer it like, but I just mentioned that it made sense to make a simpler badge. If I'd said I want a return to the ship badge because this one is associated with failure you'd have had a fair point, but I didn't!

From a branding point of view it's about creating something more simple, like what Manchester City did.

How memorable an image is is subjective, however having a badge kids can replicate (draw/sketch/doodle) easily should not be overlooked, it could be another way of connecting with younger generations of supporters. The current badge, IMO, is too complicated.

This is my opinion of course, and it is probably slightly swayed by the fact I have no real love nor affiliation for the current badge.

Agreed. Playing golf the other weekend wearing a polo shirt and some guy looks at me and says "is that a Newcastle badge".

Simplify it and make it world famous i say.

The old badge was a piece of piss to draw on your school books. Get it back for this reason I say....

Just wanted to make the point that doing things like changing the badge or logo of any organisation costs thousands of pounds and you do have to have a very good reason for wanting to do it.

The cost is not just associated with paying for a new design it's the addition cost of changing the darn thing everywhere that it appears from your letterheads to your website, team shirts and beyond. It's a bugger of a job particularly when the size / scale of the thing is just slightly altered it knocks the format of every document that you use both electronic and hard copy out of kilter. (even on the bloody seats :D :D )

Just saying

Agreed, I always used to draw the ship badge as a young un.... would have had no chance with the current one 😂

Why would they change the badge? They're investors, there to pump money in to where it's needed but so far rumours are:

They're extending the stadium - a not serious post that started in here.

They're developing the sheepfolds.

Now changing the badge.

I think some people get a bit carried away with themselves
I'm sure it was a Takeover Rumours thread originally :lol: All of those things could well happen and unless you, or someone else has got proof to show it's definitely not going to happen then people should be allowed to discuss owt in whatever way.

Who's having a pop like? Do you see a discussion as having a pop
If people post rumours then how can we have a discussion if you think it's people getting a bit carried away? ;)

How do you know they aren't Julio?

It's all opinions, isn't it?
Someone posts a new snippet of rumour info yet @bobster999 tells people they're getting carried away, exactly who has got carried away when there's no proof that it won't happen? Given it could happen as nobody on here can say either way for certain then a bit of speculation based on snippets of info doesn't harm anyone really now does it?

If I had some info fed to me that came from a decent source and I passed it on in good faith such as Michael Dell is going to come flying in on the back of a flying unicorn and tell us he's putting in heated seats and every game you get a free pint and pint along with a monorail all over Sunderland then it should be discussed, not instantly dismissed like quite a few on here like to do straight away, more so, depending on where it's originally come from.

This.

They're clearly not the right people to take is forwatd. What do these hideously successful businessmen know about company images?

Getting back to this badge rumour rather than just dismissing it as I'd be getting carried away ;) If it was looked at then I reckon they'd possibly look at the old badge being within something but with SUNDERLAND AFC clearly visible just like Man City did a few years back to make it simple and clearly Man City's unlike the last one. I don't think it would be something that would happen straight away but I can see why it may be something that may well happen in the near future as they look to grow the 'SAFC brand' globally.

As far as I read it, he made points on why he doesn't think it is likely. That's a discussion.

Asking for proof that it won't, is not.

As you say, it certainly isn't harming anyone nor did the person who replied said it did.

it's like me lending someone £100 and getting something like £120 back over 10 years. waste of time
That’s after you’ve taken a pretty big risk in ploughing in a few grand to make your £20 return.
