Makes perfect sense. I’m not from Sunderland so I don’t know anything about the O’Brien’s other than their core business, but from the perspective of a foreign buyer / owner it would be an advantage to have some local perspective.

My son went to school with Nathan.

They sold their waste management business to Biffa a few years back for a substantial sum but still own a number of other businesses in the area including an architectural salvage company.

Nathan is a MLF and clearly a very successful bloke.

I've no idea what his role will be but if this appointment is to add some long overdue commercial nouse then it could be a very smart move.

I thought it was someone just picturing a scene in an enjoyment of things finally seeming to make progress in this long drawn out takeover process. I don't think they expected anyone to take their words seriously.

I'm saddened at the number of people I've seen on here who seem to have been making it their business to try and besmirch fellow members and attack them rather than discussing things to iron out any misunderstandings. Bloody hell, SAFC are being taken over by big money investors, we should have been happy as Larry. Instead you would have thought us fans were watching the club going the way of Bury FC!
Well said that man!

Aye, which he will deflect and smirk and say I can't say much etc

This SOL talk in will be all about the structure, the people, the finances etc etc
Did you see his tweet reply above? He didn't really deflect it when he could have.

Michael Corker - it’s definitely time you updated the fans, We are the club after all a deserved to know what’s happening!

stewart donald - I have a fans talk in tomorrow so I am sure I will have lots of questions to answer and I expect this will get asked and answered

Capacity crowd for both events guaranteed!

If this is true about one of the O’Brien’s being appointed as non executive director, who is doing the appointing here?

it seems bizarre to me that American finance and tech giants would buy a football club and agree to the appointment of a successful Wearside salvage dealer to the board. Could it be related to the development of the Sheepfolds?
I think your idea around 'local' development and acquisition is spot on, I am not sure but is there a scrap yard/waste management site on the sheepfolds?
