And that is a matter of opinion based on what my assessment of the information Reiver's been given. I've actually posted very little concrete information, and what I have has come from sources who ought to know. Principally confirming the identity of the firm conducting due diligence, and the date on which I was told it was scheduled to complete. Most of the time, I've been passing on stuff that Reiver wants to put out, but can't because he's been banned. I do state my opinions on what I believe to be happening; if people choose to interpret that as fact, then clearly I need to tighten up my writing style, as I'm obviously not distinguishing clearly enough between the very little hard fact I have, the information I'm passing on from Reiver, and my considered assessment of what's happening. For this my reward is character assassination. Thanks a bunch.
There will always be idiots, don’t take it to heart. Most of us appreciate what you are trying to do and applaud it

I’m fairly resigned to another season at this level already. If we spend that time sorting out the way the football side of the business is run I’ll be happy enough with that tbh. If we roll the dice in ever increasing attempts to get this lot up this season, I reckon it’ll probably hurt us in the long run.
I genuinely think with a manager who knows his players and what formation and style suits them he could get this lot promoted. It's an awful league and the standard is really poor.

Its got the point though where people are moaning about abuse over anything. Just my opinion but the forum is becoming worse because of it, far to many playing the victim. Maybe I'm a bit different to everyone else but I just take the name calling and brush it off, it's part of what made this place great. You'd get called a name (and dish it out) then start debating and joking again with the poster who was giving you a bit stick
Yup, and arguing in good faith against posters who dish out grief but cry foul when you give it back is a complete waste of time.

Don’t agree at all. We need to get up a level so the big league is a possibility. We’re too big a club for this division. Our preparation behind the scenes should be to be a top half premier league side - based on our fan base and infrastructure. We’ve underperformed as a club in much of my lifetime with a brief improvement for a year or two under Reid.

Semi serious questions about due diligence which hopefully someone more informed can answer please?

How far back can a potential buyer look into the accounts?

Is it just the accounts they examine or is it board meeting minutes etc?

Can they question the existing owners about decisions made in the past?

I agree marra, I’m just not convinced that ever more desperate efforts to get this badly constructed shower up this season would be worth it. I don’t want any more Will Griggs. I’d rather we said that from day one our focus was to put in place a cutting edge premier league infrastructure throughout the club and would build from now with an aim that was far broader than just ‘get out of league one at any cost’. Of course if we did that and got up I’d be perfectly happy. However I’d rather get things built on a solid foundation first rather that run the risk of failing this season and having the do-over we really need (and should have started summer 2018) delayed yet again.

Agree with this and it wouldn’t require managerial genius. Some positivity and energy would be a great start. We always appear to be worried about the opposition, in the 3rd tier - really!!!

We need a manager in who can set a team up to get ahead and stay ahead, a chief scout who is in the game at a higher level than us and already has connections in place ready for January - ideally with a track on the best young players around and someone to sort out our youth system and make it fit for purpose again

BSA as DOF and a young hungry coach who is into playing attacking football

Due diligence is usually focused on identifying and understanding/mitigating current and future risk. Typically there would be a review of the past six years of operations and filings, although the focus isn’t usually on unpicking historic decisions - it’s about the present and future.

Thorough DD would include a review of all material existing agreements, contracts, settlements and arrangements in addition to the accounts and board minutes etc.

One area that might be a factor here is developing a cogent business plan for the new circumstances we hope to have following the investment / takeover.

Another area that might be taking some time is any warranty/indemnity package from the current owners, in addition to agreeing the scope of their authorities for future involvement.

I think we can do both. Appoint a manager who can both galvanize what we have and turn them into a title winning side but make clear the remit is to also set in motion a long term plan...whether he has control of that or it's handed over to a DofF.

This squad is good enough to go up with a manager who plays to their strengths. It will need to be overhauled massively for the Championship though so I don't think we are losing anything by trying to get out of L1 in the short term and simultaneously looking beyond.

I can’t remember the last game SAFC didn’t look scared of losing more than desperate to win.
Even more so after Saturday.

He needs to rid the first team of the timid and nervous as a handful of them are shitting themselves when walking out.

And replace them with who? There's no one who hasn't been given a chance. He needs to fuck this defensive boring set up off or he's out of a job
There's a few who have been given too many chances. Confident up for it players are needed. Those that won't cower the minute a groan goes out.

Thanks for the explanation.

6 years would put us back in the middle of MB's tenure? No wonder it's taking time.....
