Dominic Bess and Mason Crane

What has happened to them ?
Crane has 5 wickets at an average of more than 100 and a run rate over 5 in county cricket this season, so I think he's only bowled about 100 overs which is nothing to learn your trade.

Bess went on loan to Yorkshire and didn't set the world alight, both look to be going the way of Hameed or Borthwick at the moment (without the batting improvement). Still young, plenty of time for them to bounce back.

Crane had 10 months off with a back injury before this season, I guess that took a bit out of him

Bess has got about 25 wickets at about 26 average this year, mainly at Yorkshire. Don't think they're bad figures for Headingly tbh - and the broadsheets had him penned to cover Leach before the squad was announced.

He'll get more games now Leach is getting more for England. But aye, like many young tweakers, he suffers from the way the championship is scheduled.

Must admit, I didn't think he looked that good in his one test in terms of his spinning ability, but looked a competitive character. I prefer bigger turners, so am thinking Virdi might be the one to emerge. For now though it's Leach and, given that's exactly when his 'break' finishes, Ali who will go to Sri Lanka in March.

Bess has potential

It won’t phase him, his bowling not quite there, but he could have a future

Personally thought picking crane in an ashes tests at his stage was about a bad a selection as you could get

Talented lad but was totslly unfair on him
