Ross - Defense is better than last year

Not open for further replies.

The defense is better than last year and that's why he should be sacked.

His tactics don't get the best out the players. We could have Messi and Ronaldo and he'd defend a 1 0 lead

Just the team being able to pass a ball properly would improve the chances of keeping clean sheets. Was it just over 50% pass completion against Rotherham? That’s the issue for me. Giving away cheap possession puts the defense under constant pressure.
Couple that with the way they seem to be chinstrapped after 60mins and it’s a major worry.

Not really. Generally, concede fewer goals = win more games is more accurate.

It's a bit of both, Luton last season when they were flying were conceding less shots than we are now and they were also having more shots then we are now. We just aren't playing anywhere near good enough at present anywhere on the pitch.
I do feel as though teams need to build from the back but your ability to keep the ball and attack can help the back massively. The less it has to do because you keep the ball well, the better it is for them

I agree, it isn’t. It’s damaging to morale and confidence. Therefore he should have avoided the subject altogether and kept it in house.
He’s a smart bloke, he should know better.
Feel he would be pulled whatever he says by some though.

Still feel he answered it well. Thread title is not really what he said as that part not in transcript.

We will because of the players we have, teams are so bad we'll be well in the top half. If we were organised better and the tactics included keeping the ball we'd comfortably be in the top two
I mean if we go up into the championship next year

We’re 4th in terms of shots against but 11th in terms of goals conceded meaning that teams need fewer shots to score against us.

The defence he’s been working on since the summer is worse than last season.
Fifth best defensive xG which is a better indicator. Happy enough with that. Clean sheets will come if we maintain that. Its the fifth worst attacking xG that he should be worrying about. The stats you describe plus the xG would tend to point towards the keeper - or pure dumb luck.

says he set a target of 20 clean sheets at the start of the season.

We have good players here and i think the reward will come in that sense if we keep believing in what we do.
We are not giving up a huge amount of opportunities per game as seen on Tuesday where Jon McLoughlin didn't have a huge amount to do against a good team.
From what i have seen on the training ground and in matches we will get those rewards sooner rather than later

Why do we start some games in sleep mode?

Ross should be getting the, hyper from the first minute. Often so flat, why the F is this then?

No. Additions will be brought in as we know.

But I do suspect it won't be total clear out as you have to keep dressing room .

And I believe with purse strings open a bit then recruitment will be better.

But just what I think.
And his tactics and outlook on his game plan will magically get better?

Fifth best isn't good enough for top two. We'd need the very best attack to counter it

Start by defending further up the pitch Jack! Sort out the passing and movememt, get players into space, stop hoofing it and keep the f***ing ball. Any defence would struggle sitting the edge of their own box for between 70 and 90 minutes every week.. for fuck sake!

Wish you would leave ? Off as feel obliged

:-)

I believe so. Think confidence players needed in few areas. Better players tend to be confident.

No.more questions please as I don't know much :-)

I understand that mate but it goes with the job I’m afraid. He had the opportunity to take the conversation in a different direction as he’s done before, but this time he got caught out. It’s out of character for him as he’s usually a lot sharper. The issue here in my opinion is his reluctance to concede that the way he’s setting the team up isn’t working. We have deficiencies at full back that are glaringly obvious and yet we seem to invite pressure in exactly these areas. Other managers aren’t stupid, and neither are we. If we can see it so can they and they will exploit it.
Personally I don’t want him to fail. I’ve never wanted a manager at our club to fail. From what I’m seeing now he’s heading toward the door unless he can send out a team to keep the ball higher up the pitch which we are perfectly capable of,and give up his obsession with clean sheets, it’s hurting us, and him.
