I’ve been watching a lot of banged up abroad lately and got me thinking where is the worst place I’ve visited. I’ve not been too far a field but I went to Tunis a few years back, absolute dive and completely overridden with flies and just had a really eerie vibe

I absolutely loved Tunis. The vibe was very different to other African or middle east countries and though the city was really dirty - carthage and the ruins was spectacular. I took a trip out to Longstop Hill and other ww2 sites that most people won't have heard of and it was quite spectacular being in the middle of nowhere in the vast planes and seeing the debris from the war still there.

Copșa Mică in Romania c1983. Waited in a train station for about 5 hours. Desperate for a shit walked into and out of the toilet. The site will remain forever on my memory.

Observer Magazine did an article a few years later saying exactly what I thought. Shithole.
