After listening to the recent podcast with Kieran Brady he kept stressing how Sunderland as a club has to stop accepting mediocrity and develop a ruthless streak from top to bottom, playing and non playing staff. At 16 when he asked another pro about what it is like at Sunderland he was told "easy" and sounded like a holiday camp. Unless you were self motivated it was easy to cruise and although players said they gave a 100% on the pitch, it was only 100% of their current fitness or capability and not what could be achieved if pushed.
I thought those days would be over with Jack Ross as he certainly talked a good game before arrival, however, post match interviews and his comments mirrored by player interviews does suggest they are happy with current performances and in my opinion this feels like happiness with mediocrity is still the norm.
I also like KB's comment about he would be happy if Sunderland were the headline club in giant killer defeat since that would mean we had actually made it and had the expectation to be consistently playing at the highest level and winning.
I think everyone wants us to win and wanted Ross to succeed but it does not seem to be happening, especially when we have chances to captilise on other results or games in hand. So it will be interesting to see how the new regime will change the club ethos. Donald did promise this but I am not sure he has the ruthless streak required to accept he potentially made a mistake and change the personal he hired.
