Foakes for Bairstow next series please, hes done nowt with bat or gloves for far too long
There was some talk on Sky about whether they can fit Stokes and Curran into the same team as they are both 4th seamers.
The discussion was more around how do you get Curran in the team when you have Archer, Anderson/Woakes and Broad

Wonder if Buttler can take the gloves and bat at 6

Burns, Denly, Root, Stokes, Roy/Pope, Buttler, Curran, Woakes, Archer, Leach, Anderson/Broad

Not that Woakes necessarily deserves his place in the team as he's had a very average summer.
Feels like Curran is a place too high at 7, but he's either a front line bowler or he's an all-rounder
Does Ali come back into the equation for Leach and bat at 7?

Tbf we shouldn’t be crawling to a 400 lead, we should be in a position to get 450+ and be out of sight but we’ve let them back into the game a bit. With 2 days to bat and less than 400 to chase they’re still in this when they they shouldn’t be.
The are, but the pitch is starting to do a bit and spin will come into the equation. Yes there is always the Smith factor, but the other 10 aren't good enough to stick about
England will win this tomorrow

Curran can't bat 7 like, maybe in a few years but he isnt a frontline batsman

Good point about Ali though, if was back in form he could bat 7 of course or 6, he is good on his day

Bairstow needs a break, Buttler to keep wicket and bat 7 for me

No he couldn't, he was batting with tail enders

Was doing exactly what Stokes did at Leeds.

There is no issue here just moaning for the sake of it.

IMO of course anyway
See my other post. Not moaning I wanted him to get tons.

Stokes was shit or bust a bit different.

Fair play but as well as Leach has done, he is pretty likely to get out very soon

I think he took the right option, it worked first innings remember, he hit Hazlewood for three 6s.

I think if Ali comes back in, we could afford to bat him at 7 with Buttler 6 and Curran 8.

Pleased to see Denly do that today. Think given an opportunity Burns and Denly could work as an opportunity, will take time though.

Sorry but Bairstow needs to go. Not having this he was in at 5, too high in the order. Just been a poor poor series for him.

Hoping Leach and archer get 30-45 mins and hopefully can just swing like Lyon did and get 25-30 runs.

I don’t think there’s any need to try and shoe horn Curran in the team. For me if the conditions favour him he comes into consideration for the Woakes role. He should be a serious consideration for that role in NZ where it usually swings a fair bit. Muddled thinking trying to get him in as a 5th seamer

I think it’s one of those things that if it comes off it’s fine but when it doesn’t can look bad.

You could argue that Stokes played some reckless shots in the headingly test but it would be churlish to do soo.

I mean if Australia win it will be another innings for the ages at any rate. Will require something remarkable.

Odds

England 1/6
Draw 60/1
Australia 6/1

Quite good odds for England if you're planning to lump a lot on. If they get 400+ its close to a near certainty.

Round and round it goes.

We've been through this for too long for me. I'd pick Curran as third seamer ahead of Woakes at the moment, maybe. But if Broad, Anderson, Archer and Stokes are all fit, he's not in the team - simple. Five batsman, Stokes, a wicketkeeper, four bowlers.

We'll be fine. It's not as if they have the best batsman the game has seen since Bradman or anything!

oh

I don't necessarily disagree IF we had the five batsmen. Maybe the selection is dictated by the lack of proper red ball batters
