Ashes 5 test - The Oval

Siddle often plays County Cricket.

There's no harm playing white ball cricketers as long as they can make the adjustment from white to red. Some can't but some can (Stokes, Root), bowlers can pretty easily.

Yeah agree was just making the point, that it wasn’t the extra county cricket practice that they players had that was a factor in them retaining the ashes as was suggested by some earlier in the series.

It has mainly been done the the quality of Smith, Cummins and Hazelwood.
Leach was excellent there

Not sure what Wade doing there in the last over, people would be having kittens on here if Bairstow and Buttler adpopted them tactics in the last over before lunch trying to save the game!

These are so ordinary bar smith

We’d have hammered then if Jimmy was fit

Have to say looks a big mistake picking woakes over Curran and then overton

Hindsight but Ed Smith gets paid a fortune to make these decisions
Bairstow is a excellent gloveman, foakes is probs slightly better but there’s no point replacing them 2, we play most of our cricket in England, what chances is he gonna be taking that bairstow won’t? It’s nonsense

If you want him dropped as he isn’t scoring runs that’s fair enough but replace him with someone who will, that ain’t foakes. It won’t improve the team at all putting foakes in, bairstow is class with the gloves

He is good enough.

Was poor in the WC mind, it’s defs a step down, he will have to work hard at it, which I’m sure he will

I think some of the out of form plsyers might surprise a few on the winter tour, been a long season and they’ll be ready for a break
Why are we starting with woakes after lunch?????

I support you a lot on here but when I see revisionist, hindsight bollocks then i'm going to call it out. You have good cricket knowledge but you are absolutely king of hindsight at times. First of all going into the first test Woakes was our locked in third seamer. No-one whether its Ed Smith, you, any media expert would have said differently. After the first two tests he has series figures of 7 for 170 and again no matter what you say, or any expert says now, not one person was calling for Curran to be into the side going into Headingley. Woakes was shocking at Headingley and for the first time there was an argument for Curran to play and probably would have done had it been anywhere but OT. This was effectively an Australian drop in pitch with no conventional swing although Starc did get it to reverse. It was a pitch where tall, back of the length bowlers had a big advantage. Outside of his new ball spells Broad was ineffective, Overton didnt go for many but was ineffective and Stokes and Archer when it matterd in the first innings were poor. There was nothing to suggest Curran would have made a difference. Even if you disagree, nobody at the time would have picked Curran earlier than then although strangely one or two are now saying otherwise

As I’ve already told you I wanted woakes dropped at lords

You can choose not to believe me but I said it.

There’s plenty to suggest, he finds swing when nobody else finds it, he should have played more than 1 game like, he was the best player in the team last summer against a better side than Australia.

Woakes has looked shattered all summer, his pace is miles down. And Overton isn’t a test quality bowler.

It’s not revisionism I’ve wanted him in the team s summer

There we go, 2 all.

Interesting to see what kind of Player Smith is in 2.5 years, can he continue to grow? More interesting, will he have any batsmen to play with?

Bradmans Ashes record remains unbeaten

Thing to remember is he does play in Australia, will score loads on flat decks

I don’t think he will be at this level it’s impossible

Honestly just looking forward to not turning on tv n seeing him bat
Didn't carty say over by tea?
