Ashes 5 test - The Oval

Moot point as Denly and Burns are starting to 'come good', but given Jack Leach's ability to play well defensively, and occupy the crease, against some pretty decent bowling, shouldn't he be batting higher up the order? I don't care if he spends two hours to score six runs, if he's anchored one end or protected stroke players from the new ball, he's done his job.
Round and round it goes.

We've been through this for too long for me. I'd pick Curran as third seamer ahead of Woakes at the moment, maybe. But if Broad, Anderson, Archer and Stokes are all fit, he's not in the team - simple. Five batsman, Stokes, a wicketkeeper, four bowlers.

Both Stokes and Woakes seem prone to bowling brilliant one match and filth the next. In an ideal world they (and Curran) are competing for the fourth seamer/all rounder spot, but we have an abundance of all rounders and shortage of quality batsmen.

Gutted for Denly but 6 runs means fuck all

It’s amazing how much importance the media put on it

Remarkable they are getting out of here with a draw really

Even if smith had just been good rather than best ever, we’d have won
Denly now averaging over 50 as an opener this series

Not going anywhere

It’s amazing how Labuschagne only got a game through total luck with Smith getting hit on the head.

He was not selected despite only playing red ball cricket and despite scoring runs in county cricket and despite excluding Smith their batting been terrible.

Selection not as easy as made out by some, and it was certainly not some grand plan of theirs to get him over early to play county cricket and get red ball practice as they did not even pick him!

Yeah Aussies are getting praised for all their great planning

Am I missing something?

Smith has had a freak series and have they some brilliant world class bowlers, not to say they don't deserve a draw, but it hasn't been mastermind stuff

all their other plans have been terrible

Bancroft dropped after 2 games for Harris who looks nowhere near test standard

Khawaja dropped, Wade never a test match batsman, Head dropped

I don't get it.

There is no easy answer, I can see both arguments, I am a huge Curran fan, but I think if we want to be more consistent rather than swinging from brilliant to terrible then we probs need 5 batsman, stokes and then a batsman/keeper

I personally think we have shown signs this series of batting sensibly, its just the batsman don't quite have talent against these bowlers to get big big scores, its more a 50 here or an 80 there

I guess at home we could play Curran for a batsman mind, I have no doubt it would win us games.

Smith freak series? He’s the best in the world.

You said he has had a freak series. No he hasn’t. It’s now 10 straight 50’s against us. He’s sussed our bowlers out and convinced people he can’t get out which only improves his confidence

Aye if you want to make a completely different point to what I was talking about, go for it.

Cracks appearing now they are lot looking like they will win the series. Even that Paine is a Grade A çunt. They can’t help it, they are a simply race of massive çunts.
Spot on. They’ve always been like this yet the hypocrites try and make out they’ve changed after being caught cheating.

Contrast it to how their neighbours New Zealand behave and how well regarded and respected they are.

Cant imagine anyone being as gutted for the Aussies if they’d lost the World Cup final in the way NZ did.

Just leave this here before going to work
And this is why I won’t pipe smith off or their bowlers like some.

Well to be fair, they are only in Australia be

Do you have a list of englands? Smith aside I'm curious to see the comparisons.

Just leave this here before going to work

They are a bunch of bastards, even more so when they aren't getting their way. Easy when there's no pressure? What's the excuse for his Co cheat Warner?

Most disliked Australian team. Ever.. Brett Lee etc piped up a lot but you felt they always respected England.. This Australian team show no respect.

I admit to waffling on about this but you are right. I think my thoughts on this stem more from the fact that we seem to go into series abroad very under prepared at times.
