Nelson!

This club is different to the majority of others. Yes there are bigger and better clubs out there but we are right up there. Slight outciders. I put up with bristol city fans trying to put us down day in day out but what they know deep down is that rugby city will never Have a successful club.
‘Some clubs are meant to stay down’ neither bristol club even put together have never earnt the same as us. Walking round bristol you will never see a local footy shirt. Just a top 6 club.
This makes me appreciate the money my family had put into me becoming an mlf. Ive never seen success with this club, just the one season of mediocrity.
If this deal comes through, after years travelling 9 hour round trips every other Saturday, to see this club achieve and this group comes in and awakens us out of this sleeping giant that is actually in a coma. The feeling cannot be put into words.
‘Where were you when you were shit?’
Right here with the rest of us!!!
Absolutely spot on. I don't think it's delusional or out of touch to say our fan-base is top-tier, especially given what we have put up with over the years.
If you are a Sunderland supporter then more often than not you live and breathe Sunderland, we don't really attract the casual crowd. In terms of "outsiders", Quinn talked about it getting "under your skin" and I was always cynical about what that really means......why us and not, Forest/Villa/Leeds/etc/etc?. I honestly think it's the people and how much WE care.
For example: I'm getting up at 6am to go to a bar with four Americans with no prior connection to the UK and the bloke who owns the place and started following us under Keane/Drumavilla (he's from Dublin). We are all getting up early to watch a league one game, against Accrington Stanley, in a bar that shows Portland Timbers, Ireland (football and Rugby), Red Sox and Sunderland pretty much exclusively.
As depressing as it is most of the time, we're part of something special.
