Different rules apply to different divisions is my grasp of it.

Aye that's my understanding as well. I think (might be wrong) that we could pay the manager whatever the fuck we want in league one because it's the wages on the playing side that are considered. If we did that, however, we'd be contributing to trouble in the championship because it is more concerned with losses (your only allowed to make, what is it, £30m loss over 3 seasons or something) and paying loads to a manager would obviously make financial losses more likely

Yep - no wage restriction in the Championship so whether he's a player/coach or groundsman it all counts towards the figures

Thought I'd read the managers wages dont come into ffp

So a possibility of a manager being paid by someone else and contracted to the club ?
Not adding to accounts.

You have separate criteria's I believe.

1 ) not losing x amount overall.
2 ) not increasing wage bill by x amount.

When talking about having employees paid by different companies you're in murky waters, the likes that only Man City seem to be able to navigate safely.

If you want to take the piss, then you probably can by paying further money to the EFL in a lawful manner.
