Was always anyone born within a distance of 1 mile of the Tyne was classed as a Geordie ( Scott Dobson referenced it many years ago ) as some previously stated on this thread

Was it one mile distant,or one mile North?

hhhmmmmmm. I’ve never heard that before mind. I’ve just always thought geordies were from Newcastle but it seems you’re classed as a Geordie if your from other areas aswell?

Its open to a lot of debate but I've always understood it to refer to anyone from large parts of Country Durham (inclusive of Sunderland) and Newcastle up into the Southern parts of Northumberland.

All figures agreed, buyers accountants have finished their work, due diligence papers arrived at the EFL yesterday and the first run through was described as 'absolutely fine', legal paperwork now being drawn up and, unless the buyers pull off face masks and turn out to be Mags on a wind up, it's all done ...

... oh yeah, and we're having a monorail from the Worm into the ground
So not announced today then :(

I never heard the word mackem till I was in my 20s and in those days it was only people in Newcastle said it. Everyone was classed as a geordie and called themselves geordies. It was only in the 80s it changed.
...and when they said it, it was virtually spat out.

Worked in Newcastle late 80's and it was and always has been a derogatory term imo and used by them to separate the species of the North East...and then John Hall gave them exactly what they wanted a la "Geordie Nation" for anyone Scotch Corner and above, trying to portray the whole of North East as black and white to the outside media, bar the lowlife mackems living in a tiny, forgotten backwater of the North East.

Keep it coming marra....loving this me, can't f***ing wait!

Cheers for the constant info. If you had to put a time on it before it's announced, what would you reckon?

I'd just be guessing like everyone else mate.

The club will want maximum PR but can't leave it too long otherwise it'll all come out anyway,

As soon as possible I hope, this is killing me and stopping me working ffs ;)

I’m now getting visions of Scooby Doo and his mates pulling a mask off someone and saying “It was ‘old man’ Ashley all along” with him saying “and I would’ve gotten away with it if it wasn’t for you pesky kids.”

I’m not sure about this mind.

My dad (in his 70’s, from Sunderland) says that he’s never referred to himself as a Geordie. Even before the Hall ‘Geordie nation’ shite.
Think it was more how people outside the North East referred to you as roughly where you were from without any reference to football, whereby now it is supposedly because you are a fervent black and white fan...to me that is just a "Mag".

I know plenty of people born outside of Newcastle, follow NUFC and refer to themselves as Geordies, similarly I know a few people born in Newcastle who follow Sunderland and also refer to themselves as Geordies....imo the latter are correct and the first lot are mags.
