Because I would like to see if giving Buttler the gloves takes the shackles off a bit and kick starts some form with the bat.Why on earth would you pick you best keeper and then not have him keep?
You don’t think someone else could average more than 20?
Ollie Pope has a first class record where he averages nearly 60. Granted, he may not be able to transfer it to tests. But we won’t know if we don’t give the opportunity. He may be a Hick. Or he may be a Tescothick.
And there is massive upside vs Bairstow at the moment.
Bairstow doesn’t deserve a place in the team on form in the last 2 years. That’s just a fact sorry.
If Bairstow's reading this he'd be dizzy. He's apparently batting in every position except 9,10 or 11.
Can I just say that despite is talents he's not in particularly good form in Test formats. Moving him around the order won't help him, he's batting at 6 or 7 moving him higher up the order with make it harder for him - give him a chance, bat him in a position he knows.
He opens in ODI so its not an unfamiliar position for him. I appreciate its not the same but from a mentality point of view he is obviously fine up there and a position he knowsIf Bairstow's reading this he'd be dizzy. He's apparently batting in every position except 9,10 or 11.

He’s made a 100 batting 3, if he applies himself I think he could bat anywhere in the order. It’s all in his head, when he’s pissed off about something and feels he’s got a point to prove, he’s the joint second best batsman in the team, alongside Stokes.
Disagree on temperament completelyI think focusing on averages is not the right thing to do personally, it’s more whether somebody has the mentality and temperament in the international arena which I feel Bairstow has, the way he went about his innings in that last innings suggests he has that, we were bang under pressure and the Ashes was slipping away, and him and Stokes for that crucial period where they were both at the crease, changed the way the game was going and put England on the front foot.
In a diffrent area with more competition for places and more depth of talent would see your point more, but the depth of talent simply isn’t there, and if Pope does come into the side, there is more of a argument for Denly, Roy or Buttler to be dropped before Bairstow.

He has played some dreadful dreadful shots. And acted like a child
Maybe so, but he's struggling. Whacking him up to three will not help him to find form. Play people in their proper position. Fix the problems that exist while not creating new ones. Moving Root, which I eventually agreed with, clearly hasn't worked. He’s made a 100 batting 3, if he applies himself I think he could bat anywhere in the order. Well. Hasn't the "he does it in a different format so it will work in Test cricket" just been thoroughly debunked? He opens in ODI so its not an unfamiliar position for him. I appreciate its not the same but from a mentality point of view he is obviously fine up there and a position he knows
Has Bairstow not done it in test cricket?Maybe so, but he's struggling. Whacking him up to three will not help him to find form. Play people in their proper position. Fix the problems that exist while not creating new ones. Moving Root, which I eventually agreed with, clearly hasn't worked.

Notwithstanding the fact he appeared to be finding a bit of form in the 2nd innings of the last two Tests, there’s no more evidence to say that moving won’t bring him back into form as there is to say it will.Maybe so, but he's struggling. No but it's common sense. Different batting positions have differing roles. As a batsman he is a middle order. And opening in 1st class or Test match cricket is a specialist position, different skills required.Notwithstanding the fact he appeared to be finding a bit of form in the 2nd innings of the last two Tests, there’s no more evidence to say that moving won’t bring him back into form as there is to say it will.
Moving him is fixing a problem. Bringing in Foakes should strengthen the batting.

I’m not saying he should open. I think he should bat 4 and bring Foakes in. There’s not a lot of difference between 4 and 7.No but it's common sense. Different batting positions have differing roles. I'd bring in Sibley and have the first three as Burns, Sibley, Denly.
