Striker
firstly, what a knock by Ben stokes
Secondly, WHAT A KNOCK by Ben Stokes

But hope this amazing win doesn't gloss over changes that are needed.

root as captain looks like he's struggling, give Broad the job for the rest of the series and let root focus on getting runs, we need root the batsman more than the captain.
Buttler needs to come out for foakes and Barstow can go as batsman only at 6.
Roy needs to swap places with Denly or sibley needs to come in as opener.
Anderson in for woakes

Burns
Sibley
Denly
Root
Stokes
Bairstow
Foakes w/k
archer
Leach
Broad (c)
Anderson

I think I’m one of the few who thinks Denly hasn’t done too badly.

I too would bring Sibley in at 1 to open with Burns.

Sibley
Burns
Root
Denly
Stokes
Roy
Bairstow WK
Archer
Leach
Broad
Anderson

I can’t see us dropping Bairstow and I think Roy would be much better down the order.

However I’m not sure if we have a back-up keeper in the side I’ve put in.

In my opinion Roy and Buttler need to be rested.

Bring in dom sibley and Ben foakes

Burns
Sibley
Denley
Root
Stokes
Bairstow
Foakes +
Woakes/Anderson but put jimmy to 11 obviously
Archer
Broad
Leach

With all due respect, putting Stuart Broad in charge of reviews is one of the stupidest things I've ever heard in my life ;)

Stokes, Stokes, Stokes, Stokes, Stokes, Stokes, Stokes, Stokes, Stokes, Archer, Leach. Stokes can carry the drinks as well.

And I bet Sokes makes the best drinks.

Seriously though, Buttler needs a rest so I'd bring in Curran. if Jimmy is fit and capable of playing back-to-back Tests then bring him in for Woakes otherwise give him more time to recover for the 5th test. Give Roy one more chance.

I would leave Bairstow as WK. Buttler has to go so bring Sibley in to open with Burns and either give Roy a try lower down the order or bring Pope in lower down the order. If Anderson is fit he has to come in for Woakes.

captain wise, I dont have a f***ing clue.

As if they are going to change the captain at this point/stage.
Roy can’t play. Either Sibley or Denly up the order
Buttler can’t play. Either Foakes and give him the gloves or Pope
Woakes is unlucky to miss out but Anderson plays if fit

Bairstow still needs runs but does enough to stay

I quite like this thinking. However, realistically, Buttler wont be dropped and Bairstow will keep the gloves.

Ideally id look to get Malan in at 3 but that isnt going to happen.
Sibley for Roy
Curran for Buttler

I'd want Anderson to prove his fitness before replacing Woakes

Well I doubt they are going to pick Anderson unless he proves his fitness, and I doubt people on here are selecting injured players.

Woody was speaking yesterday about the line up for Old Trafford.

He doesn't reckon there will be much change. Just an order change with Pope and Jimmy maybe to come in

Can't see how batting Pope or Roy at 4 helps either of them. As both are 5 or 6 for Surrey.

Perhaps

Burns
Denly
Root
Stokes
Roy/Pope
Bairstow
Buttler
Archer
Broad
Leach
Anderson

Sibley, Pope, Curran and Anderson surely in contention especially if Anderson gets through this 2nd game Vs Durham ok. Buttler, Woakes and Roy are vulnerable

Yes your thinking is similar to mine. With the Ashes still at stake and little or no 4 day cricket in the last 2 months there will be little or no changes. Jimmy for Woakes if he is deemed fit enough and possibly Denly up the order for Pope but it wouldn’t surprise me if they stayed the same. All the stuff about Curran as a 5th seamer and uncapped openers that haven’t played for weeks is just fan gossip. Won’t happen.

Woakes must be under pressure, either he is carrying a knock it Root is reluctant to bowl him.

Bit of dilemma for Woakes. I think he is an excellent new ball bowler and when he isn't bowling with the new ball it takes something away from him. I expected Broad and Woakes to open the bowling at Headingley and Archer to come on early as Archer is top class with the ball at any stage. Woakes had a poor match but is still amongst the best 4 or 5 seamers to choose from, however if Jimmy is fit then it can only be Woakes who drops out.
