The theory is sound but as Stokes showed it doesn’t win you test matches
Nonsense. Stokes did the only thing left to do with one wicket remaining other than just surrender, it was Butch Cassidy and Sundance except they actually somehow won the gunfight at the end . 99/100 he or anyone else fails in that position.

Stokes was chasing nothing with 4 partners remaining though. He batted incredibly patiently. After Root went one more partnership would have done it. 6 wickets left at one point chasing 120 or so with a day and a half to bat, you chase nothing, why would you? Teams routinely reach that total with 6 wickets and that much time remaining.

I'm glad we didn't win that way because we would be deprived of one of the greatest innings in Test Cricket, but Bairstow and Buttler absolutely fucked it up by going for shots. It just so happened that a miracle happened that made it irrelevant.

:D:D nice when it goes for you, but the number of poor decisions in this series is worrying. There has never been so much money in cricket, and the technology is available so it should be used. Not happy with this 2 reviews aside caper, there is only one bloke stood looking straight down the wicket, if he can't get it right how can any other fecker. If VAR is part of top class football now, why not in cricket?

I actually think the current system is fine. Would rather see an extra review in a test, or get one back after 80 like before, and an extra review in ODIs is essential for me but to open it up would destroy over rates. Think there are small elements of the review system I’d change, like punishments for totally frivolous reviews and frivolous appealing (reported by the match umpire and captain punished) but don’t think it’s too bad, unlike VAR which is horrendous.

End of the day, the fault of the decision lies 100% with Tim Paine and that absolutely retarded review he wasted not 2 overs prior. Karma, really. Reviews are for obvious howlers not for random desperation punts

Was some appalling shots tbh. Bairstow, Archer, Roy, Denly (still don’t know how he didn’t get out to one of them), Woakes all incredibly guilty in that second innings.

Agree the game needs speeding up but we have stops to check catches run outs stumpings not to mention boundary saves, not to mention drink breaks, and physio visits. Aussies are shocking at reviews but as I said in my original post, the umpire has the best view in the house, and if he can't get it right who can. Perhaps a better system would be to have a coach from each team in a video booth and they decide when to review. The standard of umpiring in this series has been horrendous, if you are shelling out £50 and upwards for a seat I think you deserve better.
