Am I the only one wondering why the previous owners are getting away scott free here. After all they’re the one who signed players on inflated contracts running up a big debt that they couldn’t finance and ended up selling the club for £1.00

Dale might be an opportunist shyster whose taken advantage of situation to feather his nest but he didn’t start the bloody fire

Initially thats what i thought, but i read last night there's a clause (a covenant?) which goes with the land stating it can only be used for sport. So a housing development wouldnt be allowed
Those can be changed though if its shown sport won't be played. Would be a canny battle i would have thought though.

Just been watching some lass talking about Bury on YouTube, she reckons she googled Steve Dale (their owner) and in 5 minutes managed to find out he’d been in charge of more than 20 companies that have either gone into administration or been liquidated.

Yet he passed the EFL’s fit and proper person exam.

What an absolute disgrace.

Sorry if SEB but how much does the owner want? I’d pay a tenner to a fund to keep em going

You do realise you are allowed to be an asset stripper and have 20 companies go into liquidation and still pass the fit and proper test.
The test only looks at if you have criminal convictions and the like - not your business practices.

Unless the ruling changes, he could literally liquidate Bury; sell the land for profit and still pass the fit and proper test.

I’ve heard that before but I also got the impression that Stewart Donald and company were subject to much more stringent checks when they purchased SAFC. From memory their interrogation took at least 4 weeks and it doesn’t take that Long to check if someone has a criminal record.

Also mortgaged the club at 138% interest

That was because all owners are also checked to see if they have the funds to run the club for the season - that’s why it took 4 weeks (as it was difficult to work out how much money would be needed to cover us for a season in League 1).
They didn’t bother to do this check on the Bury owner, as he took over mid season - which sounds baffling but apparently true!

They'll get an extension. No news today.
The EFL are s###ing themselves that if 1 or 2 go, it will start an avalanche.
So many clubs "surviving" on gates of 5000.

Latest EFL Statement on Bury - Not looking good :(

The EFL Board has this afternoon been appraised of the very latest position in respect of ongoing matters at Bury Football Club.
As of 5pm there has been limited progress made either by the current ownership providing the required evidence in regard to outstanding financial information, or through a change of control being achieved with new owners.
The EFL will continue to provide all support available and will keep working to find a resolution to the ongoing issues ahead of the Notice of Withdrawal deadline, which remains at 11.59 PM on Friday 23 August.
If a successful solution is not found ahead of tonight’s deadline, the Club’s share in the EFL will be withdrawn and its membership in the League will come to an end.
The EFL will move to confirm the position as soon as possible, with an update to be provided on Saturday 24 August.

Well if that's the case it's a farce. I hope Bury FC survive

Presumably you mean only minor criminal offences like rape, as oyston was allowed to go ahead and buy Blackpool.

Staggering if true that Dale can legally go ahead and do what you said though.

The EFL have been very naive here but it’s difficult to do much else as he has done nothing illegal.
All they could do is refuse to give the league share to a club owned by a person of perceived low moral standing but that wouldn’t change this scenario.

Just remember for later, the true villain in this piece is not the EFL, even though certain folk will portray them as such.

The fit and proper test came in after Oyston was owner and the league have no power to strip someone of a club after a conviction.

What he is doing is not illegal, it’s heart breaking for Bury fans, it ruins a community and it destroys a legacy, but it’s all above board.
It is the case of private businessman runs a private business his own way.

Oyston was one of the members who decided on whether someone passed the fit and proper test, don’t forget.
