3rd Ashes Test - Headingley

The bowling is good, in some cases VERY good but the batting is awful. Watch old clips of Gooch, Atherton or Strauss - lots of good bowling but batsmen who knew where their off stump was and batsmen prepared to leave 6 balls in a row. So what if we only score 220 in a day, it's good old fashioned test cricket
Now look at the wickets we lost today and how many of them could have left the ball....

I'll have a look when I get home, but this is the problem now. 40 over and 20/20 has bred a new generation who think they need to score off every single delivery. Just leave it alone if its not there to hit. Play your shots when it is.

Feel sorry for Archer and Broad (and Leach i suppose). Only ones in this team that can hold their heads high at the moment. Now having to do all the hard work again because of their colleagues lack of application.

We desperately need a Paul Collingwood type batsman in the middle order

In terms of a captain would Stokes be able to do it
It would kill Stokes' game if he had to captain us too - he's already out best batsman, outstanding fielder and talisman with the ball (on occasions) - to add the captaincy would dull him down like it did Beefy and Fred

Yeah you are right, I wasn't thinking about his back problems.....
Are there any good/very good county captains out there that could scrap for their wicket?

Hildreth?

Haway man: does Cook fancy coming back for a year? We're in dire straights.

This time last year people might have said Burns, who is the reigning CC captain...
