We are probably arguing the same thing but having listened to all of the podcasts, Donald was never concerned about complying with SCMP this year but he was always concerned about next season especially if we are promoted. Promotion clauses in existing contracts and the parachute payments ending mean that we would struggle to meet the requirements of FFP in the Championship. As you say high earners contracts would have finished, but getting Cattermole's wages off the books should go a long way to help us meet League 1 SCMP if we don't get promoted. There are many things the owners have done and said that are disingenuous but forward planning isn't one of them.

Problem is Cattermole is still getting paid next year so it hits our SCMP figures

You'd think so - but having money to spend in football circles does funny things to even the most pragmatic of gentlemen. Knowing how best to spend it is as much of a skill as getting hold of the damn stuff in the first place.
