I promise this isn't biased, but if Woakes isn't taking the new ball, we should've played Curran instead.

Woakes is absolute pap without the new ball so not too much of a difference to Sam in that sense, but I really fancy Sammy with the bat if our backs are against the wall. I just think he has that grit and that lack of fear.

Ball has stopped swinging and the pitch is as flat as a witches tit.

Best bowling days conditions wise are today and tomorrow.

It's a 1st v 4th pitch. If they get 250, we need to get 400+. Time was, that was how you won test matches, not rely on skittle people out for 150 all the time. But, you know, it requires competent batsmen...

Woakes is different class to Curran with the ball.

Curran is League One at this level, Woakes Championship.

But the debate about who to drop for Jimmy is not a hard one for me. Don't care how long the tail is - an attack of Archer, Anderson and Broad supported by Stokes is up there with the best we've ever fielded.

These 2 have done what we need our batsmen to do. They stuck it out while it was hooping, now are reaping the rewards when the pressure is eased.

We will be 50/3 though no doubt, even if its 25 degrees and not a cloud in the sky.

Personally, I don't think there's a lot in it between Woakes and Sam - especially once the ball gets old and loses its swing. I think Woakes can hit the line and length more, while Sam is a bit more skillful and clever - but both look pretty toothless once the shine goes.
And I absolutely fancy Sam with the bat far more than Woakes, especially if we're under pressure.

If Woakes took the new ball, I'd have said right call - but since Archer took it, I'd have gone with Sammy.

Agree with your last bit though
