It must be really shit 'supporting' a football team that you aren't even happy with when we win.

I know we can all moan about some of the football being naff at times, but we're in the third division, with mainly third division players.

Anyway I'm happy we won, I didn't clap (that would've been weird on my own at home), but I'm certainly happy.

Roll on the next game and another tap in for Wyke.

The point that people are making is that we're in the third league and still can't outperform teams, and it's a fair enough complaint really.

Being in the third tier with new owners, debt wiped and a clean slate is the perfect opportunity for us to actually start building some kind of identity as a club. We even now have a manager who has been here a year so should be settled and understand the players and know what he wants out of them. Unfortunately he still doesn't even know what formation we should be playing, although recently he seems to have settled on a preferred starting line up which is a start.

But what's the actual plan? Play attractive football, press high, park the bus, route one to a target man, exploit the wings, build around our youngsters from the academy, sign young players and have a young squad? Does anyone kno Does Ross even know??

I want to see and know what our actual long term plan is, because 'hoping that McLaughlin and McGeady will bail us out' isn't a plan and will only work for so long. Coming out of the ground yesterday I overheard a couple of Rochdale fans basically saying we were shit (literally saying it actually). f***ing Rochdale man.

That's where I am.
I get what you're saying but maybe what didn't happen last season might happen this time? Fuck all we can do about it either way!
Fingers crossed it doesnt mate and we improve and go up. I just think people thinking all is rosy on back of winning that last night is being a bit naive. If anyone who was there thought we genuinely looked anything like promotion contenders then I am amazed.

It's League One. We haven't spent millions due to financial constraints and are doing the best we can with the players we have. We ground it out at an away match against a reasonable team and came home with all three points. What more do you want considering the circumstances?

See above. Some people want a bit more than scraping past Rochdale in Division Three.

It's a lovely thought that we should be building a team for next season in the Championship.

But, as we all know, spending money only to fail to go up would be a financial disaster.

I'm resigned to scraping our way up, clinging on and using the increased revenue to rebuild again.

It's not exciting but it's realistic.

I agree but you can’t just buy a whole new team, that doesn’t work either. We have to have the core of a team that can compete in the division above. We have to hope Eillis, Dobson, McNulty are going to grow and alongside Big Jon, can provide us with a first eleven nucleus.
Can we see any other centre half stepping up, any full backs? Leadbitter perhaps one more season of cameos? McGeady ditto, no one else is first eleven in championship are they?

I don't think they do actually. All too often over this past year or so we've seen teams create more chances against us than we do against them, and it's frustrating. Sheffield United played well in this division. Luton Town played well in this division. So why can't we? Too many are cuddling League 1 and taking comfort in the notion that it's shit anyway so it's ok if we're shit too. And I'm sorry like, but we're Sunderland Football Club, we should be better than that.
I agree that we should be better however we don't have a god given right to be, yet if you listen to quite a number of posters on here it would appear that they believe we do.

The club was in a mess and was being crippled financially. We could have quite easily become a Bury or Bolton however we haven't.

Whilst part of that reason is because ES wrote of the majority of the debt, it needs to be appreciated what Donald and co have done since they took over. A large part of that is making us sustainable and that has resulted in us having a League 1 squad. This to me is the point that is lost on a number of people here. We no longer have a Premier League squad, we don't have a Championship squad... We have a League 1 squad and whilst we all want us to walk the league the reality is that we don't have the squad to batter sides 5-0 every week.

Scrappy wins when we may have been outplayed will only increase the confidence of our playing squad.

We'll come stright back down doing that.

No not pill wifes nearly 70.Where to start with last night.Iam sure to get pelters but here goes,we all agree signings needed lb asap and others hopefully .However the football is the same turgid stuff ,dont know how long we are going to get away with it.I listened to it and had to check it wasnt barcelona we were playing ,cant see ross changing either .We are lucky if we touch the ball every 10 mins, just abdicate huge areas of the pitch and pray mcgeady will score and big jon will keep them out .I know we won so everything must be great ,well it isnt im afraid clappers.
You should be thrashed with fresh nettles for using the term pelters.

I know its easy to criticise the standard of our play however I thought Rochdale were very good. They wanted to play football didn't panic on the ball and had some technically good players. Maybe people need to start giving the opposition some credit..

If Rochdale can do it, surely it's not too much to ask to expect Sunderland to be able to?

Bit of a naive way of looking at things.

I'd be very worried about the next season, as I'd fear we wouldn't have enough to take the game to better sides.

They deserve plenty credit, but I think they were there for the taking mind.
We Took Em.

I don't think it's too unreasonable to think we should be attracting the best talent in the division with our profile and resources.

I'm far from convinced we were ever going to "do a Bolton" and we certainly wouldn't have "done a Bury". Lazy comparisons to different situations.

We should appreciate that Donald and Co have delivered a League 1 squad that isn't good enough to get out of League 1? That'll not wash for very long. Then you can really watch us emulate the likes of Bury.

I agree mate. Even at this level Rochdale passed n move. We are so slow in possession and 'on the break'. Won tho.

The ref was a homer for the last 15 minutes and I don’t recall any game changing decisions by the ref? So what’s he on about. We are the most honest team in the league.... naive if anything
The only thing I can think of is a couple of very optimistic shouts (from their fans, not the players) for handball. We got 4 yellows in 10 fouls, including Leadbitter taking one so that Grigg could get treatment for what looked like a head injury and the ref wouldn't stop play. He was a Homer, pure and simple.

While I agree we were not great we can only beat what's infront of us and we did , if 2-1 wins are this seasons 1-1's then we will be ok
Rochdale played really well, passed the ball out from the back and if they had a cutting edge they would have beaten us, we are a League 1 team with League 1 players what do you expect ,3-0 wins every week because we are Sunderland ?
