A bit old school but buy a loaf, take them up Penshaw Monument. Come down cross the road take them into the County Park and head to the lake. Feed the ducks / birds. Then on the way back to the car park take them on the play ground.

Head down to the beach for lunch. Fish and Chips or Martinos for a snack indoors.

Head to Shields, take them on the fair. There's a boating lake if the weather is very good.

Bad weather? Take them to Marsden Grotto.

It might not be very modern but the kids will enjoy it. The weather being good would be helpful.

Could also climb Tunstall Hill. Canny view from there.

The play area at Gibside is class. It's a canny place for exploring too. Weather dependent of course.

The Baltic has the viewing platforms, kids love owt like that. Tie it in with the Millennium Bridge tilting to blow their minds.
We've had our bairn at Gibside a couple of times and she has loved it. I reckon she was 3 and 5 on the two occasions we went. Hoping to fit another trip in this year with both bairns. The best thing about the NT places is there are very few scruffs about.
You shouldn’t feed ducks bread - no nutritional value and fills them up too much.
There are mixed opinions on it

We enjoy retro games because we are nostalgic for them.

To the bairns it's just welfare Mariokart. I still say super Mario World is the best Mario though.
Super Mario Bros 3 is the best man.

Take them to a local pub and let them run around screaming at the tops of their voices, climbing on furniture, etc.

Seems to be all the rage these days.

There's Durham as well if the weather is decent. Nature trails in the Botanic gardens and Wharton Park is decent. Maybe a look in the Cathedral if you think they'd like it.
