2ND ASHES TEST: LORDS

I agree. We could have had 231 off 57, instead we need 266 off 50. Quite pointless if you ask me - should have been declaring way earlier. And Jonny blocking shots at the end drove me mad...

Roots far too conservative - I really hope we don't sit here at 7pm with Australia 9 down begging for those 7 overs we left on the board, all for the sake of a players century. Remember Colly declaring on 99 for us last season - now that's a team player.
Learnt from cook who was the same and Strauss before him.

Ah, so I'm just a bit thick and can't possibly make up my own mind? How very condescending of you!

The whitewashing from history of the Australian culture of cheating continues, however you need to justify it to yourselves.

Not whitewashing anything. I’d have total respect for the treatment of them if the treatment of all guilty of ball tampering was the same. Fact is, it isn’t. You can invent any reason for that, but it’s quite clear why.

Anyway, decent declaration by Root.

They might have fancied their chances chasing 230 in 57 overs mind

Not all ball tampering is the same, using items found in the dressing room (eg sweets) or on the field (eg dirt) is one thing, still unacceptable mind. Using something that wouldn't be anywhere near either for the sole purpose of ball tampering is worse. Not hard to work out.
