Don't treat our fans as idiots, he isn't expected to have many assists or goals but even your defensive midfielders have a responsibility to your attacking play and McGeoch doesn't do that.

At no point did I say McGeouch has Kante’s workrate or even Fernandinho’s forward passing ability, what he does do is retain possession and very rarely does he give the ball away which is in my opinion the main reasons teams have players of that ilk in the team.

Kante and Fernandinho are brilliant box to box midfielders with many attributes that McGeouch hasn't shown at all. McGeouch doesn't have the League One equivalent of Kante's workrate or defensive capabilities, nor does he have the League One equivalent of Fernandinho's drive and forward passing ability.

Using your description, you're better off making comparisons with someone like Jorginho, which is interesting as he was integral to 'Sarriball' and an approach I'd love us to take an interest in.

If McGeouch is going to work in this system (or any two man central midfield system) we need players around him that are going to create. They need to be good basically, as he is giving the ball to these players in the hope they will create something, rather than doing it himself. That's the whole point of a player like McGeouch. Unfortunately our players don't appear to be good enough to create, including the full backs who he is a fan of passing to, which makes his role in the team a negative one.

No saying McGeouch and Kante are the same type of player, just using it to emphasise there are lots of different types of midfielders in the modern game. If you used only goal and assist stats to determine quality you'd completely overlook one of the best players in the game.

Our problem is simple and you've inadvertently described it above. If you have great footballers they can be covered defensively and fed simply by a water carrier. Just ticking over possession.

We haven't got great footballers. As such we need players who have more to offer in all aspects of the midfield role, in both attack and defence to help spread the collective load.

I understand perfectly what McGeouch's role is but we don't need that in our team at our level with the players we have available. Ball rentiontion is trotted out as McGeouch's strength. We are keeping the ball for 5 seconds longer because he's just negatively passing the buck on to someone else of similar or worse ability to lose it.

If he himself was looking to pass it forwards, looking for a one two, offering good movement that would help us as a team. He isn't. He's passing it 5 yards sideways or backwards and thinking his job is done. Passing the ball square to Pires or Veira or backwards to Blanc isn't remotely similar to passing it square to Gooch or Hume or back to Flanagan...

We apparently have the best squad of players in the league but we are a long way from the best team in it. A better manager would have those same players playing a better game. Still prepared to give JR time to turn it around but he needs to show some courage and ambition.

Depends who ya listen to. Media outlets seem to think he did quite well. Gonk on Roker Report gave him a 5. I think I'll hedge me bets with the pros.

Funny game to read much into though really - how bothered were they about progressing? The league has to be the priority.

By all reports it sounds as though Power had a good game, doing the kind of things McGeough does not.

According to who though? I can't say I'm well versed on anybody else's squad but I don't buy this idea that we somehow have a better squad than anybody else.
