Most of our fans are idiots TbfIts debatable whether he does do that role very well as we always look susceptible to counter attacks but its not his only role to screen the back 4 either. If he was making interceptions to help turn defensive situations into attacking ones it would be fair enough. Don't treat our fans as idiots, he isn't expected to have many assists or goals but even your defensive midfielders have a responsibility to your attacking play and McGeoch doesn't do that.
I kna. Mindboggling. He was the best thing since sliced bread on here after the Oxford game bud
Till he’s garbage and we want McGeouch back inLet's be honest, he's garbage.

If you look at my comment I clearly highlighted that they are of a much higher quality!!!
My point is they in theory play the same position and my understanding of that position is to keep possession, not to turn the ball over, and build a footing within the game!
At no point did I say McGeouch has Kante’s workrate or even Fernandinho’s forward passing ability, what he does do is retain possession and very rarely does he give the ball away which is in my opinion the main reasons teams have players of that ilk in the team.
Now if you don’t mind!!! I’m off to compare Grigg to the fat Ronaldo or Marco Van Basten!!!![]()
ThisOnly a run in the team will decide if he is up to it or not. I personally think he is a very tidy footballer who ticks it over with his passing just nicely.

Out of interest, if he’s not a midfielder, then which position best describes him?Maybe the issue stems from you having no idea which position he plays in...
Really ? User-name abuse ? That’s what you’ve descended to, now ? You must be so pleased with your intellectual rigour !Apt username.
Ngolo Kante has scored about 7 in the same amount of premier league games and he's one of the best midfielders in the world.
No saying McGeouch and Kante are the same type of player, just using it to emphasise there are lots of different types of midfielders in the modern game. If you used only goal and assist stats to determine quality you'd completely overlook one of the best players in the game.
Edit: someone else has made that comparison already.

He is being singled out because of all of last season’s summer signings, he was almost certainly the one who can be most likely identified as a choice made by Ross, rather than those included in the ‘bulk buying’ that took place to fill out the depleted squad.
Therefore, pursuant to the prosecution of some people’s agendas, he is guilty by association - the playing embodiment of Ross.
Cantana once disparaged Deschamps as being a mere ‘water carrier’ by comparison to the other, more flamboyant talents of himself and Ginola and subsequently Viera, Pires and Zidane. However, the response was that every team needs to have its ‘water carrier’ in order for the greater talents to flourish.
McGeouch has the capabilities to be SAFC’s ‘water carrier’.
sadly correctOur problem is simple and you've inadvertently described it above. If you have great footballers they can be covered defensively and fed simply by a water carrier. Just ticking over possession.
We haven't got great footballers. As such we need players who have more to offer in all aspects of the midfield role, in both attack and defence to help spread the collective load.
I understand perfectly what McGeouch's role is but we don't need that in our team at our level with the players we have available. Ball rentiontion is trotted out as McGeouch's strength. We are keeping the ball for 5 seconds longer because he's just negatively passing the buck on to someone else of similar or worse ability to lose it.
If he himself was looking to pass it forwards, looking for a one two, offering good movement that would help us as a team. He isn't. He's passing it 5 yards sideways or backwards and thinking his job is done. Passing the ball square to Pires or Veira or backwards to Blanc isn't remotely similar to passing it square to Gooch or Hume or back to Flanagan...

Depends who ya listen to. Media outlets seem to think he did quite well. Gonk on Roker Report gave him a 5. I think I'll hedge me bets with the pros. How did Leadbitter do last night?............................Friends who were there reckon he was shite?
I wish someone would explain to me what he is there for? He's clearly not in the team for creating or scoring goals though, is he.
Thats like saying would you rather fall onto concrete from a height of 99m or 100m.Colbak is a far better player.
According to who though? I can't say I'm well versed on anybody else's squad but I don't buy this idea that we somehow have a better squad than anybody else.We apparently have the best squad of players in the league but we are a long way from the best team in it. A better manager would have those same players playing a better game. Still prepared to give JR time to turn it around but he needs to show some courage and ambition.
