Borthwick on Loan

Was thinking about this earlier, didn’t post due to the site maintenance and now the club have announced Handscomb it’s probably a moot point. HOWEVER, I did wonder whether the club may look to get Borthwick back some way.

Would strengthen our weak top order, possibly bat 4 allowing Burnham more chance of facing an older ball and improved situation at 5.

Clearly not having a great time of it down at Surrey.

Does anyone think we’ll ever see him again? Personally think we will, can’t imagine him going anywhere else should Surrey dispense with his services to be honest and what’s more, should we gain promotion (which I don’t think we will, mind) it would be a very shrewd signing for us IMO.

Unfortunately, I think it'd make sense for all parties. He's clearly liked and respected amongst the players, and he's got a great rapport with the members - but for whatever reason, sadly, it just hasn't happened for him here.

If it isn't going to work here, I'd love to see him go back to Durham and rediscover the player that got him into the England side.

Yea, it could happen. I'd be in favour.

A small point. He got into the England side because of his bowling, believe it or not, I don't think they knew who he was really.

I’m not one for welcoming back those that chose to leave for whatever the reason was, no agenda just my vindictive streak rearing it’s ugly head.

I would imagine he would cost a few quid if we signed him
If it came to a choice would people prefer Badger on a contract instead of an overseas player if we could not afford both.

How long is his Surrey contract?

And in answer, yes of course. He was excellent for us and I’ve no problem with him choosing to leave
Agree with that, I'd have him back in a heartbeat. I don't know his reasons for leaving but I'm sure they weren't "I know what will piss off Durham fans"

So when? As I said would prefer to see young Steel get a chance before signing a player from another county.

For the County Championship, the most important competition we’re involved in.

I don’t think anyone thought that to be the case anyway.

It was supposedly to improve his chances of playing for England. Being offered more money than Durham could possibly match will no doubt have played a part.

and to improve his bowling and I don't think he does that anymore. OTOH, if he's gained acceptance that he's not a bowler (like Atherton did) that is probably a good thing.
