This is absolutely disastrous. Murtagh has bowled well though, fair play. The Aleister Cook shaped hole at the top of the order won’t go away. The Ashes start in less than a week. Very concerning.

Questionable that there is, all comes down to who is the lesser risk now tbh, going back to Ballance who will be Mitchell Starc's bunny or someone completely new being thrown into the mix.

Whatever the outcome, either one of those scenarios is preferable to Denly.

Think we have tried everybody throwing somebody new would be the wrong thing to do as we clearly have no one near good enough or would playing already.

There's limited options but Denly is one of the laziest picks in recent memory, picked on the back of a good T20 season and because he could bowl some leg-spin in Sri Lanka. Still maintain that Root should be batting 3 and it's almost becoming selfish that he isn't given how abysmal we are in the top 3.
