How often should it be changed? A lass I know had it done five weeks ago and her car is now saying it needs doing again. The people at the service place say five weeks is a long time yet everything I can find online says it should be done between every two to four years. I'm obviously no expert but I take it she's being conned to bits?

Should get at least six weeks out of it.

(I can't believe that you're even asking the question TBH)

On a related note, I need my brake fluid changing, an air-con recharge and an MOT; can anyone recommend a local (Sunderland) garage for this. Also, a rough idea of price.

What they're saying brake fluid needs to be changed every five weeks? Haway man who the fuck has she taken the car to?
Evans Halshaw who she is paying for it on one of those monthly deal things.

Should get at least six weeks out of it.

I know, it is common sense but I'm just getting confirmation for her peace of mind pretty much. I can't ever remember having mine changed personally.

You can go a lifetime without doing it,you'll replace a bit as and when the brakes are bled etc .More critical to consider it a service item these days with higher boiling points etc

sure its roughly 24 months or around 25,000 miles. every car will vary though like oil changes etc. BMW need oil changes every 8k (BMW themselves say around 16k but any car enthusiast would stay to protect the chance do it every 8k)

Just found out she's only had the car 11 weeks and this would be the second time they've recommended it to her. Obviously taking the piss.

Auto tune next to Lidl have a special on at the minute if you mention Facebook when you book. £70 for air con and mot. No idea about the brake fluid though.

They're taking the piss.

I get mine checked and topped up or replaced if necessary once a year as part of the full service. I drive approx 15,000 miles a year.

Just do it yourself. Must be YouTube videos kicking about. I just did all my filters and changed the oil and brake pads from videos.

I wouldn’t even bother unless a light comes on.

If the car's self diagnostic is reporting that the fluid needs changing again then either there is a fault with the car or the fluid was never changed properly in the first place. Guess which I would put money on.
How old is the car?

She's had it 11 weeks. As far as I know she is the first owner and drove it out of the forecourt herself.

Her owners handbook will tell her how often it needs changing for definite. Certainly not every month, more likely every two years.

If the level is low it could suggest excessive brake wear or a leak.

I very much doubt there’ll be a light that tells her it needs changing.

Tell her to tell them to get fucked.

I would be querying this with the dealership. Could be a fault with the electronics or a serious fault with the braking system. Whatever the cause, this shouldn't happen with a brand new car. Should be covered by the warranty surely as the car is new.

She just rang to complain and they've given her more of the same. Any tips on where to go with this? She's got it booked in to an independent place for them to have a check already.
