Unless we're trying to attract Championship level players. Even Premier League loans may be outside of our wage structure. How many times over the years have players opted for London clubs for example?

Sensibly composed response
Look I've no reason to doubt what prehabs and speedy has told us , it doesn't sound like all is rosy does it

When you talk about ‘this situation’ do you just mean the lack of incomings?

Everything else is just speculation at the minute. I don’t know what’s going on but figure it’s not worth worrying about things I don’t know.

I guess I mean the whole thing in the round, we know SD has been trying to get this deal over the line for many weeks now, yes it's speculation that it's collapsed but there's zero evidence to the contrary, I take it as bad news if true. Park who is very well thought of at Celtic was apparently part of said deal and clearly would give us a new angle on recruitment. One of my clients was a main board director at RBS for many years and is a Celtic fan, speaking to him last week he said he was hopefull the club would still find a way back for JP.

My work is in professional services and over 30 years I've been involved in a fair amount of m&a work. In small businesses the operational activities pretty much always suffer during a significant transaction, simply because it takes the focus of so many key people.

Just cause for concern at the moment for me. If the deal was over the line, and Park had joined I'd be feeling much more optimistic than I am at present.

Just concerned though, not pissing pants as no doubt someone will be along any minute to suggest.

How can it be said that we've made a pigs ear of this transfer window yet ?!?!

I didn't say that.

Charlton were for sale for £33m (plus £7m of debt to be paid by the new people) and couldnt find a buyer in league one..
promotion means the price has gone up to £50m..

Surely even CM would struggle to put a positive spin on this situation though mate.
what situation> we came fifth last year and have signed a player. plenty of ime for more.

New recruitment team not happening
Touting best player for sale
Ross still in charge of who we sign

That potential situation

do we need new money? I thought safc was a big club-if it cant sustain a promotion oush in league one without significant outside help then its a terrible club
sell anyone if they pay more than worth.

You are one of the few that’s been more of a basket case than us over the last ten years.
yes but pompey arent one now-they have a proven league one manager, a winner at this level multiple times, and a lot of tsability...no one is asking a plyer to sign for the portsmouth of the lastten years-but the portsmouth of now.

The situation that were pretty much skint.

Stop trying to be the oracle on everything Mr ‘I don’t care that much but have to post badly on practically every thread’.

You've always come across as a class poster Speedy so i've no reason to doubt what you've heard is genuine.

Hopefully it's just a cash flow issue that a bit of investment will cover and not catastrophic.

whats changed in six months-six months ago we smashed the league one transfer record-no we are prety much skint?
less than six months ago we were told the forecast was for an operating profit this year in league one-now we are pretty much sknt-whats changed?

As nice as someone with more money than the current owners coming along would be I don’t think it’s the end of the world if we don’t get investment. We’ve had massive upheaval since we were relegated from the premier league. I really believe we will benefit from a settled side and a manager who is more experienced than when he joined the club

I’m sure Stewart and the lads are working hard to bring in new investors but it has to be the right people. Countless other clubs have proven throwing money at the wall doesn’t work. Stewart has a business model that he wants to implement and it is still very early days

Nothing has changed. A couple of scare stories in the press coupled with a failure to get promoted and this place has turned into a Whingefest.

And they're in Landaan....

you can talk about business models all you like, football is a results driven business. Last season wasn t great results were disappointing, and the football often dire. Promotion or bust as far as I am concerned for this season. Failure and gates will plummet along with sponsorship, could set us back a decade.

You need a yorkie as your tag picture fella! How exactly did in your words SD bring the uncontrolled juggernaut to a halt? What was it exactly that was so special that SD did to gets such plaudits? Is he a business gure with no equal?
I think there's a danger that we go too far the other way.
SD and Methven were knights in shining armour.
Now they're robbers and thieves.

They got rid of NDong, Dodgy and Rodwell.
They and their people brought in a whole new team quickly.
They brought in the Scottish manager of the year.
A club that was bottom of the league two years running was competing for promotion.

Who gets credit for all that if not them?
And but for the last five games of the season where we came off the rails everybody would be fairly happy now.
And nobody would care about them making a quick profit.

The current situation is worrying but we're still a good investment opportunity.

I get what’s in it for him kind of, he is rich and wants a bit of involvement. Just not sure what’s in it for us.

Must admit I was a bit anxious that as soon as he came in he started banging on about bringing loads of Uruguayans across. I know some have dual nationality etc, but for the many that don't it would be almost impossible to get them across here due to work permit restrictions. You can't just bring a load of 17 year olds across from Uruguay and say they're going to be footballers. It seems from afar like he's lost interest quite quickly

I have nothing against the owners and base that on my own observations of them. Some on here have been against them from the start, some even using thinly veiled sly little digs. It’s a bit like the SMB version of “some of my best friends are gay/black/both”
Now that isn’t to say I am right, but at least I was willing to give them a chance. That said, there are worrying signs developing at this moment in time, again though I won’t jump to ludicrous conclusions that I have been lied to or misled, until confirmed otherwise.

I will therefore assume due to the 2 likes, that my guess is along the right lines

Absolutely spot on. From the little I've seen of the owners, from the podcasts etc, I like them. I tend to try and take people as I find them and don't go looking for hidden agendas or deceptions. Maybe that's naive but regardless it means that I think they're canny. I don't think they're loaded (compared to the likes of Short) but I don't think they're broke either like some suggest. I know they're ultimately here to make money but I think they're also football fans who love running a club and want to do the best they can do. Like you I wouldn't start turning on them unless they give me a good reason to do so. That being said, I absolutely agree with you about the worrying signs. Way I see it, they've set an ambitious target for this season (the 100 point one), and there's no doubt that for a club like us promotion at the second attempt has to be the absolute bear minimum requirement. I think there's a lot of work to be done in order for us to get near that and if they don't get a very good squad together (for this level) regardless of potential takeover/ investment then that for me will be the first major failing they've had and will very much get me questioning them. If we start poorly and Ross doesn't change the way we play then again I'll be wondering why they kept him, you can't normally get near 100 points by trying to grind wins out

*bare minimum, not bear ffs, too early in the morning and I can't edit it!
