Cattermole gone

Of course it will impact on him because despite what some on here say he genuinely cared.
He played 6 times in the Prem relegation season. He didn't play a significant part as 4 of these appearances were after we were relegated.

Preaching to the converted, always been a massive fan of him and we always looked better when he was in the side......Problem is at £40k a week he has an awful injury record in the last few years and £40k a week goes a long long way in funding an improvement in players across the entire squad.

Contributed to it whether a constant or not. I know you are a Catts fan but you have commented his shortcomings
I know his short comings they're there for all to see. He didn't play a significant part in the relegation season from the Premier league. Unless you mean him not playing was a reason we went down?

'Bout time he went. Seems a decent enough bloke but he just isn't any f***ing good. Runs about in space a lot and puts the odd tackle in which has his fanboys f***ing creaming in their keks. Saying that, he is so slow now (and has been for seasons) that anyone running past him he cannot even catch anymore unless he brings them down. Been one of the reasons we are in this league and doing so shite in the Prem since being in it. Should have been panned seasons ago.

Will not be missed on the pitch and we might now get a player who will move into space and look for a return pass after they have passed it themselves!?! Instead of just pointing..

That has nothing to do with what I posted tbf. We all know his wage was a problem

And for me thats pretty much the be all and end all of it......Last year of parachute payments, we now have virtually all the people on crazy money off the books, hopefully Oviedo is next to go. That is what the parachute payments are for, to allow clubs to restructure their playing squad without bankrupting the club and that is what the owners have done.......For me its a no brainer, getting rid of the top earners will allow us to improve the squad all over the field imho.

Your last sentence is interesting as we spent more than anyone last season and didn't add the quality necessary. Catts leaving won't improve the recruitment.

It will if spent wisely.

We have form at not being wise.

Our more recent record is one of shrewd signings.....McLaughlin (keeper), McGeouch, McGuire all excellent free signings, O9 tremendous signing given the size of the fee........Like all clubs there will be those that dont work out but not sure we have done too badly......Ironically the ones that seem to struggle so far are those who have cost big £££. I am hoping that we see a huge return on Grigg and Wyke this season and for me that is all about investing some of those wages we have freed up and getting a play maker in.

O'Nien should step up now and show what he can do, he could be a very effective player for us in midfield imo.

We spent more than the rest put together largely because of the big earners......Like it or not we were paying players Premiership salaries (even with the wage cuts) and we werent getting much bang for our buck.

The top earners at the club last season were

Matthews: hardly played and average when he did, no better than a young lad who had never played full back before this season.
Love: Didnt play at all
McGeady: Outstanding
Catts: Really solid
Oviedo: at one point 3rd choice, poor when he did play, handful of good games in last few weeks. Neither better or worse for him playing
Watmore: Hardly played due to injury, not his fault but another big contract for little if any return.

Had we been paying those kind of salaries and we were getting Premiership or top of the championship kind of performances out of them then fair play but we werent. We could have finished 5th without paying out £150k a week on that little lot. If we hadnt been paying that lot then we would arguably have been able to have better players all over the park. The one thing I would be investing in this summer is pace as we were painfully slow and shown up as being slow by average league 1 players

You know what. Bollocks to Cattermole. His last contract was a scam.

'Great servant' should be reserved for successful players who resisted the temptation and allure of other clubs. Cattermole did neither.

He is the one constant in the never ending nightmare that has been the worst period of the clubs history. A symbol of abject failure. The icon of doom.
Careful.

We also splashed out more on transfer fees than all the others. Our recruitment was very poor

Spot on

Had his ups and downs but must be thanked for sticking with us through the good and bad and let’s face it there was very little good.

im pretty sure honeyman and gouch will also be on stupid money.. they both played in the prem iirc.. but as to regards of cattermole its got to be a plus.. the midfield was far too pedestrian with him in it.. theres no excuse fron ross now not to inject some energy into the midfield..

Doubt it - Gooch signed a new deal last year and we wouldn't have him on massive money.

Honeyman signed an extension in 2017 so surely will be on Championship money at best.
