They’ve had a shite Academy for 30 years, but ironically enough the last 3 half-decent players they’ve produced (Carroll, Fraser Foster and probably Longstaff) have came under Ashley’s tenure.

Souness got them to the quarter-finals of the UEFA Cup anarl. Remember being in the town the night Sporting dismantled them like - was class. They'd won the first leg at home 1-0 and then Dyer got them an away goal over there, 2-0 up on aggregate. Sporting then got one back and eventually scored 3 more in the last 20 minutes. Tremendous.
