Why the fuck did the ref take that long to decide? It was a clear penna given the new rule definitions of handball! (not that I agree with them!)

What are they? Her arm was in a natural position, the impact of the ball smashing into it from 3 yards pushed it out wide.
Is all contact a foul now?

Even the notion that that would be checked is ridiculous. Brilliant save. I'm glad she got to actually have her save and it wasn't retaken.

Lets see if the keeper can stay on the line

Edit: Yep and what a f***ing save
Proof staying on the line doesn't mean it's going to be a goal all the time from a penna as it was a good shot but an even better save as she hadn't even left the deck before the ball was hit! ;)

That's 22 pennas and only 3 have been retaken due to keepers coming off the line so is it really that bad a rule to enforce using VAR to keep it fair and balanced? They just need to focus on encroaching as it's looking like keepers are learning though if you notice very few players are encroaching now and making sure the ball is well hit before they run in.

That was Canada's chance IMHO, they've been overpowered by Sweden apart from that

I don't think it's appropriate for VAR. Without technology you have a lino on the goal line with nothing else to keep an eye on when the ball is kicked

It’s some crap about anything outside of a natural silhouette. Football is fucked, won’t be watching any of the VAR competitions this coming season, the whole thing is completely broken

and how many times have they got it wrong?

Why should some teams benefit from a mistake by the official? Given the speed of movement it's impossible for any human who has ever lived to get it right. The margin of error could be considerable when they have to watch both the keeper and the hitting of the ball at speed, hence the mistakes of years gone by that are clear upon a replay that is slowed down from numerous angles.

If they've got it wrong it wasn't because they were struggling without technology to help them. It's not like something in open play where the referee can be unsighted or the play is going too fast. If the lino misses the keeper being off their line, the lino is an idiot. And as we've seen so far this tournament, VAR doesn't rescue match officials from being idiots.

I've never liked Canada since they threw an absolute paddy* in 2015 when England knocked them out of the world cup they were hosting.

*It was deemed an absolute paddy at the time, but obviously we've since had the Cameroon game.
