must win tomorrow to give ourselves the best chance of making semis, if new Zealand beat Pakistan we will need 9 points at least to get through.
If Pakistan win, we will need at least 11 points to guarantee semis, needing to win 2 out of 3 :(

Haven’t beaten Australia in a WC for over quarter of a century. Never scored more than 240. Tomorrow is do or die.

Aye, Pakistan wasn't too bad in terms of the total, but they wilted under pressure.

And they were pretty wobbly against the Saffers too, if you ask me - apart from Stokes, who really marshalled that to a respectable figure.

Truth is, Stokes-aside, the batsman are not doing well when pressure is applied by wickets.

My broader point is that I wonder if we should be thinking of batting first, because our bowlers are defending targets quite well - their only bad performance came in the first innings.

They did bat well against Pakistan, scored 200 man

Just shows you have used to chasing 350 you’ve got

Sorry, what mate?

They wilted under pressure. That they got to a very good total is neither here nor there. They have to win run-chases of 350 plus.

I'm not getting on at them too much. But I am questioning our strategy. Win the toss in the World Cup semi-final - and it's a road. What do you do? Going into the tournament I would have said chase. What I am saying now is - maybe we should bat first.

No they didn’t wilt under pressure

They did in the field but with the bat they batted well

Agree with the last bit though aye

Think they did wilt a bit like. They got into a winning position, lost two wickets and then couldn't see it home.

Stokes is broadly keeping his head, but other than him, when Root goes we are scrambled. The very best one day teams had a designated finisher - peak Dhoni, for India; but the very best was Michael Bevan. Who is that for us? It's unrealistic for it to be Root (it wasn't Waugh) that's a different job.

Maybe we bring Buttler up to four and have Morgan as that player as five. Or maybe it's handing it over to Stokes with more clarity? I think we need to think about roles and responsibilities when chasing - we have the personnel, but I think we aren't clear on our roles at the moment. We need a strategy which doesn't just assume Root will see us home. That's unfair on the lad. Maybe, it's Buttler? But idk. He doesn't seem quite to have it and is maybe better as a destructor. Idk.

Agree to Disagree

We’ve only batted badly once in my opinion

Think you’re over reacting but just my view

Agreed batted poorly against SL and fielding cost us against PAK.

Without Roy I think we will struggle to impose that aggression from the off. Hate to say it but I’m predicting AUS win

I'm not saying we batted badly. If you get 350ish you look first at the bowling - I am agreeing with you on that. However, we are going to need to chase 350 down against better bowling attacks to win this thing. And at the very apex of the pressure in the Pakistan game, having done very well to get close, we wilted. That's concerning because next time we are in that situation, we will have to find an answer - and saying, "well ok but the bowlers will have to deliver" only gets you so far. We are going to have to chase 350 plus down at some point to win this thing.
