Castle Eden firsts won in a cracking game against Ashington
2nds were mullered

Are wickets really poor or are standards now at an all time low, I can’t recall seeing so many low scores as I have seen over last 2-3 years
Taliking to an umpire tonight and they are struggling numbers wise and many clubs don’t have junior sides now
Local league cricket needs a major shake up and not just a one that benefits cls (an average team before dccc was formed) and south north

248 for 4 off 45 doesn't sound like a poor wkt.

Been a lot of low scores last fortnight....I think the poor weather and the lack of pitch prep time has impacted

Umpires numbers seems to have improved in last 2 seasons. Umps sec in DCL very proactive leading to some new recruits. Rare for a 2s game not to have at least one

Junior sides at 15s and above seem to be issue
U9-U13 seem quite vibrant

I hope I’m not painting a rosier picture than exists but that is what I’m seeing

Fair points
Seems kids lose interest at 14 maybe a society issue and not a cricket one. I do think scores have just got lower and lower as a trend over last few years, premier league aside although I do feel outside of top 3 or 4 standards in that league have dropped as well
Sad that we are happy with 1 umpire but know what u mean

If one team gets a big score and the other fails to, it's not about the wkt.
I know it’s not about wickets it was a bit of sarcasm on my behalf mind a terrible bowling attack on a terrible wicket would still lead to a big score

Watched a bit of this match.
Missed Eden’s innings and left when Ashington were about 80’ish for 3 and looked to be plodding on to surpass Eden’s score of about 160. Ben Harmison (did he play for DCC?) was batting and looking comfortable.
Saw result and that a lad had skittled out most of the rest.

Accurate I'd say. All Stars has given a big boost. U18s cricket to me isn't that valuable anyway as lads of that age can play senior cricket.

In terms of stemming the drop-off of players/ clubs we seem to be doing ok locally too.

Both teams had similar starts, we thought prob not enough on the board , but spinner pulled us thru at the end, shame he's only got one or 2 games left

Standard has gone way downhill fast in South Yorks.
I just shake my head when I see the scorecards and see who is still playing at a high level.

My personal view is we have created “super clubs” who have lots of players especially juniors to the detriment of a lot of other clubs. You can’t blame these clubs as they are ran very well and get what they deserve, however hope i am wrong but see a lot of teams folding in 10 years unless there is a change

Big clubs will not be bothered by this mind.
