Can't knock him in the shorter form but I'm inclined to say he's a tad overrated at test level.

Wouldn't say that, good as anything we've produced as wicketkeepers, Prior and the likes.

I dunno what the issue is, can only think Chunky and Rey n them dislike him because he is ginger or something!

The amount of empty seats is poor mind, and no doubt down to the ICC's incredibly poor ticketing system which can't even sell you tickets for games that clearly aren't anywhere near sell out.

No real issue with his keeping but feel people go a bit overboard about his test batting. As things stand Prior had a higher average, and in 13 more tests he had 1 more hundred and 7 further 50's than Bairstow.

Averages close to 40 as keeper batsman at 7 like

And Prior is considered an all time great, dont get your point, his stats are very similar.

Prior was class, keeper and key part of one of the best ever England sides thats the point.

Anyway not sure why talking about tests on an ODI thread. Not relevant

Averages 36 to Prior's 40, fairly similar stats, Prior could have batted higher if needed. Think Prior overall should go down as the better player.

Tidy little bowling outfit, need to work on their fielding. Their batting is reasonable enough given their status.

Athers was saying in the Times that you can develop bowlers easier from poorer areas, home developed etc, but its harder for batsman as at some stage you generally need the facilities or coaching to develop the basics, think they will always struggle with that till the infrastructure is developed

Fair point, took the Bangla's a good few years to produce consistent performers like Tamin and Shakib. Sri Lanka also had very moderate batsmen throughout the 80's until the mid 90's when the likes of Jayasuriya, Da Silva and Jayawardene broke through.
