Longstaff to Man Utd rumours are on the go again ... Why would they sell a player when a “Supposed” takeover is happening ?

*Strokes chin*
We are not selling him. He has already stated (not that you can take the word of any badge kissing player) that he wants to stay here, he is a local lad playing for his home club. He only played a hand full of games (best player for us in all but one game for me) and says he wants more of that next year.
None story for me, even if Ashley wants to cash in, the player gets the final word (you can now say, what about Carroll)

When Man U come calling with a massive wage offer though....

Carol seen the £££ and a bigger club was happy to go

I think had he been playing all season, you would have a point, but he will or should be doubting himself if he could play like he did all year. He will I think want to repay the club (it's his club too, he's a fan) and also maybe thinking he has a better chance of playing for us than he will for them.
But yeah, when the big bucks start to get offered, not alot a club like us could do.. (thankfully he is a local so will have that pull atleast)

Would it be fair to say you lot are insanely deluded for comparing him to Carrick ? He’s played what, 6 ? Games.

Agreed. Carroll had been playing on the verge for a while. Longstaffs rise seemed to come from nowhere, under 23s to first team regular in a blink. Don't know if you saw any of his games, but he was outstanding for a young lad kind of thrown in, stand out player for me. He should have a bright future, where ever that may be.

How many years did the inter toto football proficiency certificate competition run for, perhaps the certificate was handed back for the next winners like a proper trophy
They didnt usually present a certificate, it was basically a preliminary round for the UEFA Cup, it's just that Newcaste kicked off that they wanted a trophy, so they printed the certificate out for them.

the above may not be true

I’ve only seen him play once or twice last season when you we’re on Sky. Didn’t look anything special but composed for a youngin.

Haven’t seen him play enough to comment on him really.

I don't think anyone (certainly none that I know) is comparing as in current quality to Carrick. It's his style of play, his mannerisms etc. It's not just the Newcastle fans making that comparison, it's managers and other fans. Was reading the Man U forum when the news first broke, and they made the comparison too.

But hey, the lad is his own player, and has the attributes to be a great player.

Then the daft Mag twats griefed him when he played against them for Liverpool by singing "You let your city doon!" There's a YouTube video of it.

Wasn't aware Gateshead was their city. Or is it Newcastlegateshead?

I don't think that would be fair tbh. It's not unusual for people to compare their younger players to more experienced players.

He’s played about 6 good games. I remember a media frenzy over Reece Oxford, Ravel Morrison, Tom Davies, Rob Holding ....
Didn’t Longstaff play when you went on a good run ? Naturally that’s going to make a player look better than they actually are. I wouldn’t pay much attention to the Man U forum, the majority of them couldn’t point to the city of Manchester on a map of Britain.

Even when they’ve only played 5 games ? The mags are even worse at us at clutching any straw they can in the hope they won’t be mediocre for decades.

I’m assuming he’s played games at other levels too like.
