Grand Central shutting down completely and no services running on the Saturday/Sunday-sorry but why can't they just run between Sunderland and Peterborough then??

Turnaround times? Lack of platform space maybe.

Could be to do with Peterborough not being one of their stops? So it would run Sunderland to York which probably isn’t worth it

Saved us a packet getting the x9 or x10 to,peterlee then bus from peterlee to Sunderland

Or from Dalton park to Sunderland
 
Not sure if Peterborough is an intermediate station with main aspects at each end of the platform or bay end platforms but that might be the reason. No starting signal for trains changing ends and you need a specific local instruction in the sectional appendix for starting a passenger service from a position light signal.

I'm just guessing here..but with knowledge like that I presume you work in the rail industry...?
