Not really as it means we push stokes out of position again or have Buttler at 4
Roy player 3 last year and usually batted 4 I think, I don’t see the issue personally
I’d agree if we had outstanding top order players but we don’t
We’ve finally got our middle order settled I don’t think we should disrupt it personally
Can’t be having stokes n bairstow up at 3 again, we’ve messed them around enough

Root 3 Bairstow 4, Roy or Stokes 5 or 6 Buttler 7 easy.
Think that looks pretty strong.
Think Roy has spent the majority of red ball cricket at 6 for his county.

No reason Roy can’t be given the chance to open. I would give him the spot for the Ashes, if he fails so be it. It’s not like we’ve got many credible alternatives. I’d rather not die wondering.

farbrace was fantastic on TMS today as a summariser. his opinion is that Roy is good enough to open for England in the Ashes series and this is before he got his 150. He stated that his game has developed so much from 2 years ago.

I would definitely play him in the Ashes mate, just think it’s unfair chucking him in the deep end in a postition he has never batted in his career in the longer format, so would have him lower down the order.
Like you say though could not do much worse.

I think he should be peddled tbh.
I think teams would be genuinely terrified of Wood and Archer opening up. Plunkett is such a solid middle over bowler and Stokes is bowling well too. Sure it's all aggressive right arm fast to fast medium, but didn't bother the Windies - if they're good enough, you don't need variety.

Just caught the highlights after kipping all day (nightshift), good to see Roy back in the groove. A match winner on his day.
We have been molly coddling Rashid for ever it seems. Reckon he was played in a game we were confident to win purely to boost his confidence.

Unfair. Mo will be fine, but that was a better pitch for an off spinner imo. And he's bowling better.

Plunkett massively underrated cricketer for me, takes wickets in the most difficult overs, great fielder and can smash the ball miles.
Been on the piss with him few times when I was kid and its amazing how he has turned it around and is still playing at the highest level, never ever would have thought it.
