and how good he is as a manager, is how he manages to build a team to play to Will Grigg's strengths. He has a summer to work it out, whatever you think of Grigg's performances, he is proven in this league and ANY other team would have him.

Everyone gans on about this and that when it comes to how Ross' teams played before but this will be the mark of him. Poyet didn't have a clue about how to play Defoe and Allardyce cracked it cos he can adapt to what he has

Allardyce 'cracked' it simply due to trying everyone else and running out of viable options, so he just stuck Defoe up front and let us hoof balls up. Defoe is/was that good and a predator that he actually won some of those balls and fed off the half chances it created himself. Even when it was working Allardyce was so inclined to have a 6 ft forward in somewhere he included Graham wide and then N'doye, despite it probably affecting how the side functioned.

As for Ross the soundbites coming out are that he wanted Grigg to stretch opposition defences, as he plays on the shoulder, to give us space to play in. The problem is Grigg might do that but he isn't quick enough to get beyond defenders often, doesn't offer a physical problem and does his best work when being fed in and around the box and the players supporting him in that way have struggled too. I can't see Ross cracking that as after six months with Maja he hadn't noticed the problem was already there anyway and in either signings or team selections done nothing to address it.

I'd have been more impressed if he'd known what those strengths were before signing him.

This. Think he's seen his goal record and the video on 1.5 speed and signed him on that.

N'Doye playing wide worked for Defoe - the manager deserves credit like. There must be an effective way to play him, his stats don't lie. If Ross can't figure it out then it's an issue, thats my point

It didn't man. He played a few games and was useless wide, didn't even help really well physically as he was crap. Didn't he also give away possession easily and cost us a goal in one game?

We functioned far better with Khazri and Borini (even when he was out of sorts) and Watmore wide and they weren't as technically inept as N'doye and offered better support getting around Defoe.

There's times when you hear or read something and it resonates with you. Paul Cook the Wigan manager explained why Grigg hadn't played as often as he'd have liked this season and the answer was that the players needed to compliment him were injured so playing him without those players negated his strengths......and my first thought was oh shit, I bet we haven't researched him that thoroughly
