I just wish some of the questions could be aimed at JR.

I came away thinking that the owners ain't happy, but have faith in him turning it around. You also wonder if a few of the players take the hump.

Decent marks all round tbf. Good probing questions and robust, honest answers. I’m okay about the Grigg exchange too. Probably worth an ask but also perfectly fine for Methven to bat it back decisively. Donald would have plodded on for ages trying to answer it so fair for CM to cut it short.

Glad my q about analytics was asked. Thanks RR. I’m both encouraged and disappointed by the answer. Encouraged as we’ve got an analytics team and that Ross added to it. Disappointed as it’s clear that Donald doesn’t see much value in it - and if he wants the club to spend its money wisely he really f***ing should - and also that it didn’t seem to make any real difference to the way we play. I’d hope to see a big improvement on output next season. Otherwise I’d suggest that our analytics folks aren’t nearly as good as they think they are.

I think it's more that the level of detail they go to doesn't interest him.

He says he should have tried harder

Still no idea why he set him a pointless deadline
he said it in january as well...and i agree the deadline shouldnt have been public..

he didnt say he didnt see value-he said its not interesting to him-and as he doesnt make football decisions,,he doesnt need to..

Again, it should. Or at very least he should be able to articulate why it is important for us to do this and do it properly. I’d expect some context around it and the ability to talk about what we feel it gives us. Donald gave the impression that he thought it was a load of old nonsense.

Methven very passionate and talking well, you can tell he's frustrated.
The bloke is quality. Tells it like it is. I quite like that’s he’s giving us a bit of jip.

On the financial side, he’s contributing a lot and understandably frustrated at the criticism when he knows the state of the club pre and post his tenure.

You should listen to it before commenting. No, it probably wasn’t the best set of questions on Grigg and it was nigh on impossible for them to answer properly. But that was a supporter asking proper questions from the heart and what a lot of supporters are asking. Donald dealt with it professionally and politely. Methven, again, went on like a bully, tried to belittle the interviewer with his ‘man in the pub’ jibe and was quite rude.
He was right. Haway the Charlie?

it shouldnt need to know..the head of the football department should now..
..just as there is a head of the hr department, sales department, stewrat should be talking to the heads of departments..not micromanaging those departments..

Nonsense. He’s the chairman of the club. He should have a decent working understanding of it - at least to the point where he can verbalise why it’s important and what it gives us. No CEO in the world would defer that level of basic understanding to an employee.

he isnt the ceo..he is the chaorman.
department heads should know rthis stuff..
he should know its happening and why its happening..

Good podcast. Plenty positives. Good tough questions. As always just not enough time to get answers to every question.
Not enough was asked as to what Juans role is and what he brings.
Also no mention of things like the shirt deal, naming rights to stadium etc. I appreciate at the minute they are minor only 2 days after the play offs but you might not get there back for a month or two.

I've come across plenty of MDs who were pretty clueless on the nuts and bolts of finance (the ones with a sales and marketing background in particular); they rely entirely on their FD.

I’m sure Sartori was referred to as a potential investor at one point which seemed a bit odd

I’m not asking him to understand the difference between xG and xGa or to be able to use Python Grumps. Just admitting that he didn’t have a clue but recognised it’s value in helping us make smarter decisions and was sufficiently well versed in how the best clubs were being run to know that it’s the right thing to do would have sufficed. Instead he waffled on for a bit being somewhat dismissive before pivoting to a gripe about something Gordon Armstrong said about the number of scouts we employ. As I say, he should be able to do better than that. He may like to take the ‘I’m just a fan’ position but he’s the top of the tree when it comes to Safc. We have to rely on him properly holding people to account.

Something is certainly up with the lyle Taylor thing. Donald stuttering his way through it and repeating himself without answering.
