Charlie Methven on metro radio

Promotion was and is a realistic goal. That does not make it an entitlement.
I expect SAFC to get promoted. I have to handle it when my expectations are not met.
Who isn’t handling it? Where are you getting this entitlement from? We have every advantage you could wish for in this league apart from having a settled squad this season.

My dad can’t stand the pair of them. He said they’re a pair of con men and the real hero in all of this was Ellis Short clearing the debt.

That was a day after they took over

Personally I think they’re alreet and CM made some valid points. Maybe if they’d put free buses on for very early on Sunday morning a) everyone would have been buzzing with pretty much every coach in the north of England driving down the A1) and 2) many of us wouldn’t have been hanging out of our arseholes after Trafalgar 2

How have we displayed an entitlement culture then? We had realistic goals and expectations that weren’t met.
To the best of our knowledge our fans haven’t cried or shouted at shops or anything close to it.

Aye but don’t forget that according to Methven we had unrealistic expectations.

A few people on here should fully listen to the interview and then consider their posts.

He doesn't criticise the fans, nor say it was their fault.
He is honest in stating that we weren't good enough as a club/team, that real improvement is needed and that this season has been a failure
In response to the interviewer re size of club he was saying there are other large clubs such as Charlton and that we have to earn promotion, and cannot just expect it because we regard ourselves as the big club in L1.

Overall I have no issues with his comments, particularly as they were just after the match.
That’s not what he says, he says based on size of club it’s hard to argue that Charlton should have been the one to stay in league one, that’s total and utter rubbish.
It doesn’t actually make any difference but I’m unsure how anyone can say he is being accurate.

Aye but don’t forget that according to Methven we had unrealistic expectations.

Now he is saying the target is 100 points next season!

No he didn't, like

He said we aren't as big as Charlton and don't deserve to go up because they had 40k there. Then he grouped the fans in alongside the team/manager for not going up.

He wasn't saying that when he was lording it over the boxing day attendance, or our fans breaking the league record for attendances.

He wasn't even asked about the fans and he turned it on us.

He likes a pint in the tavern and said something bad about the mags though so he's class.

You have just named something I wish for in the coming season. The squad is not quite good enough but I'd like to see tweaks, not the annual full-scale overhaul we've had to endure year on year.

So, despite you not knowing the context of what was said, Methven was absolutely spot on.

Champion. It’s canny this cult lark. I might gan along with it

You already do fella, making another Netflix about it the Cult of the SAFC and it's subset SMB.

Apologies if SEB, haven't seen anything about it. Bit of an odd interview like, suggesting Charlton are as big a club as us (seemingly specifically because they had more fans at Wembley and entirely ignoring the fact they had low attendances at the start of the season so effectively just had a lot of day trippers). Also mentioning the fans being quiet (can't really argue, although I'd argue that the football served up didn't exactly help). He divides opinion a bit so will be interesting to see how this one goes down
Go on blame fans Charlie boy, costs a fortune to go football these days and Wembley twice in 8 weeks has nearly broke me, have had to cancel our summer holidays which has pissed me off and he’s moaning about lack of numbers being there and how quite we were, probably because we was shite “ well Charlie boy you enjoy your holiday and don’t worry about me , so see you next season.

Donald is alright. Methven has spent a season making snide remarks, lording about with a 6% share, and contradicting himself.

The blokes a f***ing clown man,
Donald comes across as a good bloke, Methven just comes a cross as a posh Elton school boy who is trying to make friends and become popular by drinking pints.
This isn’t the first time he has said something that is completely bollocks and against SAFC fans,
The bloke seems to me to be a bit of a tag along. Who doesn’t engage the brain before the mouth.

He didn't say we aren't as big as Charlton; he actually said Charlton are also a big club with ambitions to play at a higher level and their 40k following showed that. I have no arguments with these facts.
I also know that its right to put fans, team and manager on the same page. We are all in it together. We could all have done better on the day. He rightly grouped the fans alongside the team/manager by stating the undisputable fact the fans were quiet at Wembley. Mate, I was there and I know what he said was true. I also know that the chosen team did not whet the fans' appetite, so maybe there were mitigating factors. The loudest roar was when McGeady came on, but sadly he lacked the magic on the day. In truth he probably wasn't fit enough and lacked the much needed finesse.

I’d like to see the implementation of a longer term plan. Or at least some evidence that there is a plan.

Charlton have 8000 S/T holders and average crown of 11,000. They had a 330% rise in average attendance for Wembley. We had a 10% increase in average attendance at Wembley. Perhaps we should just do that and turn out when on a big day out eh Charlie boy?
Sunderland fans have been taken for granted for years, thousands turning up week in, week out, whatever shite is served up.

Somebody needs to give him a rocket man

My old man now refers to them as a couple of wideboys and has gone on at me for ages that the pair of them don’t have the money to run a club like SAFC. Personally, I like Donald and think he’s a genuine bloke, but Methven is a slippery fucker and he’s somehow wedged himself a stake in SAFC despite, seemingly, minimal outlay on his part.
