They scored the equaliser, made some noise for 10 mins. Second half - Nothing. Then went mental on 94 mins.....who wouldn’t. People are making them out to be Red Star Belgrade today for some f***ing bizzare reason.

They were louder than us but yes nothing special.
As with the checkatrade most f out lot were tourists or hung over from the previous night winning the Trafalgar trophy

All well and good, him being pissed off. Difference is, he has an actual standing to make us better and is blaming (conceivable) those that don't.

Don't disagree

I think you are right but as a PR bloke he should know his audience in this was even more pissed off and angry than he is. Without trying hes created a PR disaster which he may struggle to come back from.

Again I don't disagree at all

He got the first bit right- we really didn’t deserve to win the match (an abject performance with no discernible intent or style of play) and they really do need to get things properly sorted out for next season, as it has been a ‘failure’ of a season in terms of the overall objective. His comments about fans needing to be realistic about expectations (that Sunderland should be higher than league one) and his implied criticism of the fans level of support really jar however; inaccurate and very poorly judged.
Charlies words, so he needs to ask JR the question -Why?

Are we that bigger than Charlton? Yes we get more fans but we get more than most clubs but we win nowt, challenge for nowt and don’t attract any big names even when we were in premier league.

There’s been an awful arrogance around our support this season in regsrds to labelling clubs ‘tinpot’ and claiming we are everyone’s cup final.

I get what you’re saying about the hypocrisy of his comments but I can dusageee with this one in isolation .

Well I think by most indicators of what represents a ‘big’ club we rank higher than Charlton do, but I’m not really interested in a dick measuring contest with them. The fact is, Charlie Methven made it that in that little interview.

The interviewer said for a club of our size, we can’t be in League One before being cut off by Methven. Now if the interviewer is talking about the size of budget, the facilities we have at our disposal compared to other clubs and just on sheer squad size, then I think he has a very fair point. For some reason, Methven then decided to make it a dick measuring contest and started pointing the finger at supporters. Nobody had mentioned the supporters. It was bizarre and completely unnecessary.

I take your point about some of the arrogance, particularly towards other clubs and their fanbase size. But I think we are massively underperforming to be in this division and it’s a massive failure to not get out of it given the advantages we have over other clubs and to start mentioning the supporters when that is hinted at was disingenuous

that aint the point, he makes his comments on what he saw and heard, we know the reasons were drink drink and more drink Sat and Sunday
Was it fuck man .youre talking absolute shite. The atmisphere was shite because we were. We basically lay down and got our bellies tickled for 65 minutes. Our players werent even trying to track back after 75 minutes .one of them had only been on the pitch an hour

Instead of questioning rhe fans commitment maybe question that of some of the players

Imagine we didnt enjoy ourselves on the saturday .pretty tragic way to waste 400 quid watching them bastards roll over again

Exactly that. Both sets of fans were f***ing shite. The difference was they had something to shout about at the end.

It's sound though. We can all duff our season tickets next year now, dont go to any games, and instead buy a membership number for 40 quid to make sure we get Wembley tickets. The money saved will pay for the Wembley trip if we get there so we will get 40k.

Because apparently that's all that matters.

He hasn't been through what we have in the past few seasons, it grinds you down and he could do with laying off the fans who have kept their end of the bargain. I don't think we need lectures off him about supporting our club. A second Wembley trip after a disappointing end to the season finishing 5th after being in pole position for 2nd place was hardgoing financially and emotionally. The fuck up on ticket sales qualification needs to be acknowledged as a factor in the reduced, though still fantastic, Sunderland attendance. Now is the time for manager, players and owners to be under scrutiny, not the fans.

It had their end rocking in a way ours just never does. Sorry like, what is pathetic is churning out the same shite lifeless songs every week. For our numbers the atmosphere we create really isnt great.

Pathetic in the sense its a Liverpool song I've heard at every away ground in the last month

We are a bigger club than Charlton.
It’s a completely pointless label but by pretty much any measure we are.

The distance from The Valley to Wembley is about the same as it is from The Stadium of Light to Ashington.

Imagine if Wembley was that close for you, man  At least there wouldn't be this Trafalgar Square thing which I keep reading burned your fans out to the detriment of your support at the main event.

To do it once can be put down as naive but to have the feeling that going for it the night before hindered your level of support on the day and still do it again the next time you are down there is madness.

This isn't me pointing the finger at your fans, btw but there is this feeling on here that a lot of your more vocal support was fucked from effects the night before. Twice
Imagine we didnt have a laugh on the saturday man

No amount of noise in the world would have changed the outcome

Trying too hard to be the hero. I thought they were starting to look very tired; I'd have fancied us if it had gone to extra time.
I said exactly the same thing before they scored. They pressed all game and gave us no time on the ball but stopped in the last 10 minutes which let us take control. I think they were running out of steam and would have struggled in extra time.

However we haven’t learned any lessons this season and continued to give away needless free kicks in our own half which allowed them to put us under pressure which ultimately led to the goal.
