Charlie Methven on metro radio

Charlton sang twice when they scored. They were hardly sucking the ball into the net.

The second half was flat as fuck from both sets of fans.

Methven should be sick looking at the team of plodding bottle jobs Jack Ross assembled and not spouting shite about the relative merits of who are the best supporters. Because quite frankly it had fuck all to do with the result on Sunday.
I was there too and I find it pretty baffling this narrative that we were quiet and they were loud - thought both sets of fans were ok and a bit anxious, but by no means were they louder or more vocal from us from where I was in 117.

We do need a better songbook like.

I hear Ross is staying, not impressed at all. Threw promotion away. Weak in every department from recruitment onwards. The only reason we finished top half was down to individual excellence by Maja and McGeady, and the keeper. Nothing to do with good team work, in fact, not a team at all, Canny Leetle Soonlun’ how I hare those three words.
Stop saying them then. I don't think I've ever heard them come from anyone else ffs.

Apologies if SEB, haven't seen anything about it. Bit of an odd interview like, suggesting Charlton are as big a club as us (seemingly specifically because they had more fans at Wembley and entirely ignoring the fact they had low attendances at the start of the season so effectively just had a lot of day trippers). Also mentioning the fans being quiet (can't really argue, although I'd argue that the football served up didn't exactly help). He divides opinion a bit so will be interesting to see how this one goes down

Spot on with every single word. Over many years owners have come and go, managers have come and gone every half an hour, players have come and gone and still there is abject failure. The fans are the one constant. While we love to slag off owners, managers and bang on about the rotten core Im sorry like but part of that rotten core is some of our fans and their stinking attitude.

No doubt this will be met with abuse and as usual complete denial. These people like to be able to throw around insults to players, managers and owners but rarely have anything constructive to say but will slag everything off about the club at the top of their voices.

This weekend we were brilliant in Trafalgar square, brilliant for 3 hours outside the ground but the atmosphere inside was absolutely embarrassing......We were winning 1-0 and Charlton were bouncing around like loons getting their team going again. We dont even sing when we're winning.

Should have qualified the 40 v 34 comments - don’t agree with that for the reasons stated but apart from that - couldn’t disagree - expect some form of clarification statement in next few days.....

We think we're the best fans around, but, by God, some of us are certainly the most thin-skinned. He's right in a lot of what he says; our size is immaterial if we don't perform on the day. His comments about the attendance were tactless, but that's far from an uncommon trait. Rather than throwing a hissy fit, isn't the best response to prove him wrong?
I think that’s what he’s been trying to provoke but hes continually misjudging it. Three times he’s had a pop like this.

....and here he is.

There's a reason Oxford fans hate him and he wants to keep his f***ing mouth hmshut at the minute.

If he thinks Charlton are as big a club as us and thinks its alright to have a pop then he's at the wrong club

He shouldn't be making such statements. Therefore he can be criticized. It's ok to do it ya know. Just because it's safc it's still allowed.

I'm starting to really question what people mean about this.

Is it having our club back that the fans change the seats? Or that the owner goes on a podcast where he won't be asked anything too controversial? Or that we are yet again being let down by the shite on the pitch?

If we were being our classed and putting in 100% effort I could understand. But we aren't we are playing shit. We are failing at basic stuff on the pitch. And I fear the first game at the SOL if things don't go our way.

The PR methods are exactly the same used in political campaigning.

A posh fella with a pint trotting out slogans and people have bought it. And as soon as something is said or done that isn’t liked there’s a little bit of the mask that slips; whether it be criticism of certain groups as parasites or needing to ‘get real’ or banning the media. It’s the same playbook as the politicos he almost undoubtedly associates with.
