Charlie Methven on metro radio

He has form for this sort of thing from his Oxford days.
Personally doesn't bother me too much.
His roundabout way of saying we don't have a divine right to not be where we are currently.

So we are still arguing about attendances , who was louder and who is a “bigger club” .

I’m glad the season is over and we can all have a break from it all for a bit, insert cliche of choice here , maybe about dusting ourselves down etc

No. The interviewer said that for a club of our size we shouldn’t be in league one. He was right. Methven said in his very first podcast with Roker Report that we are ‘the biggest club ever to have played in the division’. Methven is the one that has made these comparisons and claims, he’s the one who talked about us being much bigger potential wise than other Premier League clubs. He’s the one who was banging on about Borussia Dortmund. He was the one who completely unnecessarily poked fun at Newcastle and club size from two leagues below. And now that club size was used in a fairly innocent fashion by an interviewer he immediately said we need to get real about that and had a pop at having only 34k there compared to Chartlon’s 40k.

we were 1-0 up at a final at Wembley after about 5 minutes and we could barely muster a chant of 'red and white army'. Methven is probably as fed up of hearing "entertain us and we'll chant for you" as I am.

And the majority fans are sick of his shite interviews

Finding it hard to disagree with most of that and he spoke as a fan rather than a board member.

People get so offended when anyone dares question our support but he’s right. We were quiet on Sunday and we are in this league because we deserve to be. That still hasn’t sunk in with some people, imo.

What I do disagree with is bringing the numbers into it, given the travel and expense, on top of the previous Wembley trip.
agree

the interviewer made the derogatory comment about Charlton and got the honest response.

I don't like the fact the daytrippers won out , but as a club we don't have a divine right to get promoted.

Some right precious souls on here at times.

No club deserves to get promoted just because they are a 'bigger' club, it has to be fought for and our team didn't earn it.

If he'd said that I doubt there would have been an issue. Answering it by quoting the number of tickets we sold compared to Charlton wasn't a great move.

He knows fuck all about us and the area bar what his lackeys will have swotted up prior to his arrival. We have kept a 30.000 odd average throughout a f***ing awful season finishing fifth . The standard of football, tactics, skill levels are truly abysmal and have been for nearly all season, how on earth we finished fifth shows the league standard we are in, when did we dominate a game throughout eh ? Barnsley home Pompey first half at Wembley ????.We know where we are Charlie boy and who we are and you are privileged to be part of us.

I’d love to be as positive as some of the people on here. Trying to justify it every time he opens his mouth and sneers at us.

Then he better do something about getting us on a par with The Mighty Charlton Athletic?

Didn't think we were that quiet?
Not by comparison with Charlton?

I only really heard them after they scored both goals. Guess that may have been because me and those around me were signing for the majority of the time. It was difficult at times to get any coordination going with what was being sung. Never thought I would say this but maybe there is a time and place for a drum. Also we often stop singing a song too soon to switch to another one.

Seems a very modern thing these 3 things and appear on here almost every bloody week.

Attendances
Atmosphere
Who is the bigger club.

Charlie Methven has been very vocal on all three issues. He brought both up in that interview when he wasn’t even asked and he has jibed at Newcastle on the bigger club silliness too.

He’s spot on apart from the Wembley attendance dig. They didn’t have to travel the length of the country for starters, and hadn’t just made the exact same trip a few weeks prior.
Some Charlton fans on the tube after the game made no secret of the fact that Sundays game was their first match they'd been to this season...only there for a day out.

You’re right like. Same as people saying charlton singing was embarrassing cos Liverpool sing that song. It wasn’t embarrassing, it was excellent support. Sure their players are saying better things about their fans than ours are about us instead of complaining their songs weren’t original.

I felt as flat as anything when I saw Ross had sent a team out to go for 0-0. The only person not going for it was the manager and the Board should acknowledge or address this.
