I think he said he was alledgely a Sunderland fan until (he claims) he was bullied into supporting the Toon.
Sting was a Sunderland fan and used to get the piss taken out of him by his pupils when he was a teacher in newcastle. When he became famous he suddenly became a mags supporter, a bit like Tory Bliar really (except Bliar was never a Sunderland supporter as far as I know). Isn't "The Great Run North" 99.99% outside of newcastle?

And Robson Green, that well know Newcastle actor/singer/fisherman (from Hexham).

i presume its their marketing department trying to use some kinda of push-back against an insular view of world events that the current political climate draws upon? pretty sure they had london and england ones in a similar vain.
Exactly. My post was a dig at @RichD who seemed to think it was the magedia or something. Based on his posts in the politics forum, it’s hardly surprising.

The great North East traditions are coal mining and shipbuilding yet Newcastle has never had a shipyard nor a coal mine within its boundaries...
You sure about that?

There’s been some shite written on these boards over the years. This one is up with the worst. There’s been mining in the city since the 1300s and plenty of shipbuilding in Newcastle. Username makes sense

You need to lighten up marra, it's only a football related forum...

Not sure why people would get worked up about things like this. As a Sunderland born person living in Newcastle there's a bit of a difference between Mags and people who simply live in Newcastle.

As a Sunderland person whose in laws are all living in Newcastle there isn’t

It isn't bitterness it just piss-taking out of the Newcastle-centric folk of the region.....the ones who've got a superiority complex, and like to lord it over the rest of the north east.
Hope they see the funny side as the rest of the north east does

The Grauniad reckon Rafa is close to signing a new deal.

Will be an incredible bit of business to keep him there mind.

That's surprising.

If he does sign, he cannot feasibly do his usual moaning routine in August about how he's not happy with transfers or when he has his inevitable pre Christmas slump (Benitez teams tended to always do inconsistently in the early season then pick up on long winning runs after New Year).
